Even though I quit smoking and subsequently vaping quite recently, I'm still very much a fan of the vaping community and so I'm always noticing mentions of eCigs in the news and media. While riding a popular "List Website" I came across a new article entitled "10 Popular Ideas That Turned Out To Be Really Dangerous" (you can probably see where this is going and I also hate it when People Capitalise Every ....... Word In A Title).

The first couple of items on the list seemed fine. Not exactly thrilling reading but I enjoy lists so it was still something worth reading. Number 7 on the list means I probably won't be going on the website again because the amount of crap makes me feel ill.

"E-cigarettes give you the same nicotine hit as conventional cigarettes without the toxic tar. Even advocates who oppose vaping—believing it may discourage smokers from abandoning nicotine altogether—say it is better than smoking. However, users who think they can inhale a chemical for a nicotine high without suffering any effects are mistaken.

The vapor can contain chemicals like formaldehyde and acetone and can produce eye and respiratory irritants like propylene glycol. While the levels in secondhand vapor are less than those in secondhand smoke, they can still pose health risks. These risks increase when the e-cigarette is turned up higher. Beyond the effects of inhaling the vapor, e-cigarettes present consumers with a concentrated, toxic chemical, and many have shown themselves incapable of using or storing it properly. In one month in 2014, poison control centers reported upward of 200 phone calls after children ingested the poison or got it on their skin. Pets are also at risk. Depending on the size of the dog, chewing a single cartridge can result in anything from seizures and cardiac arrest to death—all within 15 minutes. Users of e-cigarettes should keep cartridges out of the reach of children and pets, as they would alcohol or any other potentially dangerous substance."

I've got a few things against this list. Firstly, the "200 calls to poison control" statement - the one that's extremely popular amongst biased news articles, anti-Vaping groups/figures and perhaps ignorant people. Why is it never mentioned how many of these calls were just to enquire about what they've read in the media? Or how it's mostly poor handling of a chemical by a parent? Why is it so different to the many calls to poison control about household cleaner spillages and accidents? How severe were these cases? Has anyone actually died directly due to the eLiquids being spilled on skin? In fact, how many people have died from nicotine overdose directly due to Vaping at all?

Secondly. Concentrated toxic chemical? Nobody is guzzling the stuff down. Formaldehyde? Just going to laugh at that one.

Thirdly. How can this person be so matter-of-fact about any of this? It's not been conclusively proven to be "really dangerous" whatsoever.

Annoyed! And I don't even Vape anymore.

Good to see you still support the vaping community. What you are saying is very true. Everyone against vaping I feel are angry because they see it as an alternative of smoking so when they see us vaping to them its just like were smoking. Ignorance in my opinion. What they refuse to see is that we are trying to better our health by not using analogs. So since their is no hard proof that e cigs are dangerous they scrape up any kind of downside to e cigs that they can and plaster any kind of media that will allow them to do so. Ok ive put in my 2 cents worth lol. Thanks for being supportive.

Thank you for supporting our community. I get so angry and upset when vaping is not recognized as a way to quit smoking! I tell you I smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years and tried absolutely everything to quit. I tried the pills, the patches, the gums, nothing worked UNTIL vaping! I was able to actually quit. That's very powerful!! But yet they won't recognize vaping as a way to quit smoking. Vaping has freed me from the bondage of cigarettes and I am forever greatful!! It should be recognized as helping people!!!

We're living in the era where vaping is like witchcraft and people want to burn us at the stake. ;)

It's ignorance and the ignorance will run it's course like it does with everything else. It just takes a lot of time!

I feel confident that, in the end, peoples eyes will be opened and will look back at all the bashing/ pitch fork chasing and shake their heads at just how ignorant we were in regards to vaping.

I get that a LOT- people who try to shove their opinions up my wazoo, by saying "you're still smoking" and then incessantly try to badger me into "admitting" that it's still "smoking". What's wrong with people? Would they prefer I go back to analogs and assault them with secondhand ??

Although I agree with most of the OP's comments, there IS some reasons to believe that vaping at the sub-ohm level DOES pose additional health risks. Our own forum administrator, Rolygate, has some interesting viewpoints for being a vaping enthusiast/promoter. Go to the second topic "Inhalation Issues" in the following link:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/562106-ecf-sub-ohm-advisory.html

I agree with there being issues with sub-ohm Vaping. However, I think it's important to remember that the huge majority of people Vaping are, in fact, either not aware and/or not interested in Vaping sub-ohm. Discussions about mech mods and my own cloud chasing methods have almost made people fall alseep from boredom thus I don't consider it to be a huge risk to the majority of Vapers.

Although I'm perhaps overly optimistic, I like to think that anyone who is cloud-chasing will understand the added risks.

I just sorta wonder how vaping compares to what my parents used to do when I was a child and had a cold.

They'd put a steam vaporizer (with instructions to me not to even touch it) on a chair next to my bed so the steam was pointing at my head (but not close enough to burn me) and then put a finger-ful of Vicks Vapo-Rub in the little well in front of the steam hole.

Of course, now that would never be tolerated. Putting a steam-vaporizer in a child's room!!! Horrors!!

And heaven forbid you let a kid inhale any of the ingredients in Vapo-Rub!!

Of course, my parents did that in order to provide some relief to me. Bad, bad, bad parents. Now days, they'd probably be hauled up on child cruelty charges and I'd have ended up in foster care.

Research doesn't happen without money. Money comes from parties looking for specific results. There's no such thing as objective research anymore... Just get used to it.

Oh, and everyone talking about sub-ohms being more dangerous chemically... Those dry hits you're getting from a protank stock coil have more dangerous chemicals than a properly setup sub-ohm build. There are a lot of people in the rebuildable/coil build sections that have posted their issues with the sub-ohm advisory. To boil it down, basically there's no difference (chemically) between firing a .6Ω coil on a mech and firing a 2Ω coil at 30 watts on a DNA30. It all comes down to if you can keep the wick saturated while the coil is firing under the higher wattages. For people new to rebuilding that haven't perfected their wicking, then this can be an issue.
