When I read something like Provari's impassioned plea to Wash. state vapers, I get really nervous. Right now, I have a provari mini and an assportment of toppers. Love the thing!

Question is, what would make more sense to buy and stow away in case all legal hell breaks loose: another Provari or a Reo? I can DIY if I have to, and I can learn to rebuild, but I can't build a mod! Nor do I have unlimited funds. I know both brands have partisans, so maybe I should reword the question: a variable mod or a mech mod?

IMO nicotine is what could become a real problem if the government chooses to do that. Power supplies and toppers can become controlled also, but with a little ingenuity anyone can make their own with parts that will never be hard to get. I did buy a few rolls of Kanthal the other day at a good price though. For about $40 I got enough to last me the rest of my life ;)

I wouldn't freak out just yet. If you like Provaris, certainly buy another. You can always sell it for almost what you pay for it later. Buy a few inexpensive RBAs and/or RDAs, some cotton and Kanthal and learn how to use them. Slowly reduce your nicotine use if you can. Learn about DIY juice and buy some nic base. Basically become self sufficient.

ETA: Oh, and join CASAA if you have not yet.

I'll dance the mech <3 dance all day.

I loved my APVs, but nothing comes close to the cozy relationship between a vaper and his or her mech. Example: I'll realize my vape seems a bit weak even though I know my batteries are above 3.8 volts, so I'll polish up the pins and remove any dust bunnies that may have gathered in the 510 connector whilst riding in my coat pocket. 30 seconds later, I'm back to vape heaven.

It's not fancy like APVs. You don't get to read your ohms (but why would you really need to, if you're re-building you already know them). You don't get to change your settings or ride the horizontal train of Variable Wattage (I'm referring to steady power without voltage drift here). Suppose you could use a kick but I like my 30 watts :D Anyway, I'm sure there's others.

Despite this I feel mechanicals and rebuilding are the epitome of a quality vape. The personification of a custom tailored experience exactly to your liking and/or needs. Did I mention durable? How about simple?

It took me almost a year to get to this point but I feel there's nothing else I can do to improve my vape quality in conjunction with extremely minimal cost per coil, around a few cents. I don't even re-build that often anymore, perhaps once or twice a month. My main costs go to juice which I'm happy to spend a bit extra on since I'm not wasting my money elsewhere on faulty toppers and disposable devices.

Vape well, vape often! :vapor:

For idle fun, I figured out what I would need if I changed nothing and lived to be 90. I'm 45 now.

Nicotine: 8.2 liters of 100 mg/ml
PG: 82 liters (21 gallons)
VG: 82 liters (21 gallons)
Flavoring: Too variable, but about 30 pounds of menthol crystals plus about 1 gallon of 2 additional flavors
Wick (I prefer silica): 1,080 feet, but I'm shooting pretty high on this.
Kanthal A1: 2,200 feet (again, I'm shooting high)

Except for the nic, all that will be available. I'd need the occasional replacement base, or new toppers once they discontinue the ones I have. Batteries, that could be a stickler if I can't get my preferred one, but I do own a soldering iron, lead-free solder, and can make my own mechanical or electronic.

WOW, 0.66 pounds of menthol crystals per year. Unless you vape a heck of a lot more than I do, that's a lot of menthol!

10 ml per day of a DIY liquid that's primarily menthol (with all else being minor components) does add up. I bought a pound of menthol crystals about 16 months ago, I have a very small amount remaining and really need to order more.

I know what it's like when I use a bit too much menthol in my juice. Unless there are different strengths of menthol crystals, even at 10 ml a day, you really like your menthol super icy, LOL!!

Well, it's all good. AFAIK menthol is perfectly safe to inhale, so you might well be better off than I am with my funky juice recipes :)

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
You know, I went ahead and purchased 100 ml bottle of 100 mg nicotine several months ago - along with a good order of PG and VG - just to keep me in stock for whatever. Now I have an unopened bottle of 100 ml 100 mg nicotine that I'm not likely to EVER open because my nicotine usage went down so far so quickly that I don't actually need it anymore...lol

It's a tough decision to weigh out and a highly personal one for each of us.

I have enough nic, pg, and vg for 2 years in the freezer in a number of smaller glass bottles (don't use one big bottle, I made that mistake once and I lost 1000 ml of nic to a broken bottle). I don't know if all that will store for 2 years, but it should. Been debating more nic, but not sure on freezer storage life for it, from what I have read 2 years is about it.
