With all the talk about the "explosions" going on, I thought I'd share a couple of stories with you guys.

My husband and I have been vaping since 2009 (no cigs since 2010!) and in ALL that time, dealing with hundreds of different batteries and devices, we've had one incident. And it was my fault. Well, 2, kinda.

A few years ago, I was using an Ego style set up. I had several different travel chargers that I'd take back and forth to work with me. I also had several cell phone chargers that we all would use and share at work. So, one day, I don't pay attention to what I'm doing and plugged my battery into whatever usb/ac plug was already in the wall. Big mistake. A little while later, I've got literally a shower of sparks, just like a fireworks show!!! My boss knocks it out of the wall with a broom, and it was a melted mess. Turns out the plug I put it into was for a digital camera and the voltage was very different! No major damage, just a black spot on the wall. But, if I had been standing there close by, I could have got burned. But, it was entirely my fault. Not only buying and using cheap, junky chargers, but carelessly using the wrong ones.

Second incident. My husband is bad to drop an extra battery into his pocket going out the door. Well, a few weeks ago, he does this and has change in his pocket. It's a brand new battery and as he goes to use it later, its completely dead. Nothing. Won't charge, anything. It killed it jingling around with that change, pocket knife, etc. But, no explosion, not even heat.

So, in 7 plus years, and a LOT of stupid carelessness, we are still kicking. While, obviously we need to be careful, it's not as scary as it seems. As long as you use basic common sense, you will be fine.

Was going to comment on this but I really don't like being that disrespectful! Especially to people I don't even know!:-x

Not thrilled with Educational technique, but Glad you have learned none the less. :thumb:

I use a big 12v battery in my car.
800 cca.
If I short it, it can explode and spew caustic acid everywhere.

I've used one for 32 years and never had a single explosion.
I apply the same logic to all batteries.

Haven't seen many "ecig explodes" stories that in reality should have been called "bad handling of battery caused this" but that wouldn't further the agenda of those behind this media manipulation and safety isn't clearly their goal as very few if any ever mention advice for better battery handling. Add in that these incidents usually happen because of convenience or at worst laziness and it's brilliant how the inanimate metal tube\box gets all the blame.

I see it as a hammer.

Hammers can destroy thumbs. Happens all the time.
There isn't a warning or a "class" telling you about this danger, common sense tells you not to hit your damn thumb.
If you do, it's not the fault of the hammer, it's the fault of the user.
Accepting responsibility for ones own actions is a sign of maturity.
Blaming others for ones own mistakes is a sign of a child.

Nice to see someone who had a battery incident actually accept the blame! It bothers me every time the media Sensationalizes the incident and has the news leader of "new E-Cigarette dangers". The last one you clearly see the guy reaching into his pocket for change when it started to vent. I just wish one time they would have a piece on proper use to prevent these bone headed incidents.

Nice to see the OP take ownership. We've all made our mistakes. People want to blame vaping for all sorts of things. I know I did out of my ignorance and was all set to post on ECF about the evils of ecigs causing SRT. Back when I first start vaping, I'd love to take my vape with me on my bicycle just like I did when I smoked. After a while, I developed a case of SRT (Severe Rectal Trauma) and I blamed vaping. The issue never came up when I smoked so I thought it had to be the vaping. I was afraid I'd have to give up vaping. Turns out, it wasn't being caused by vaping directly. Turns out I was just so happy to be vaping and not smoking, I hadn't noticed that the saddle fell off my bike for like two weeks and riding without it is what was causing the SRT! Now that its fixed, I can bike and vape happily again! Live and learn I say.

Stopped in a little place called Battery Warehouse @ the edge of town for one of those small coin batteries. Got one, was dead.

Guy scratched his head and pulled out a baggie full of them to get another. They were all loosely tossed in the baggie and calmly depleted each other I guess, over time.

Said he already tried the vaping thing, didn't work for him. Good thing then if he's a battery professional and has no clue how to handle them.

 They should all have paper/plastic tag across the positive and be
    stacked

Our Battery One franchise owner would be firing someone.

    Y'all so funny!

But, seriously, I never knew a lot of this stuff. My husband handles anything electrical, my degree is in business, and the last time anyone talked to me about this was probably high school. So, yeah, even basic electrical was really not my thing.

But, NOW, you'll be happy to know I can build awesome coils, even use a big boy mechanical!!!

    I have been edumacted, lol!

its either gonna be an acid or a caustic... cant be both ;)
( acid = low ph, caustic = hi ph) and thats about the only thing I remember from chemistry class :)
