With all the talk about the "explosions" going on, I thought I'd share a couple of stories with you guys.
My husband and I have been vaping since 2009 (no cigs since 2010!) and in ALL that time, dealing with hundreds of different batteries and devices, we've had one incident. And it was my fault. Well, 2, kinda.
A few years ago, I was using an Ego style set up. I had several different travel chargers that I'd take back and forth to work with me. I also had several cell phone chargers that we all would use and share at work. So, one day, I don't pay attention to what I'm doing and plugged my battery into whatever usb/ac plug was already in the wall. Big mistake. A little while later, I've got literally a shower of sparks, just like a fireworks show!!! My boss knocks it out of the wall with a broom, and it was a melted mess. Turns out the plug I put it into was for a digital camera and the voltage was very different! No major damage, just a black spot on the wall. But, if I had been standing there close by, I could have got burned. But, it was entirely my fault. Not only buying and using cheap, junky chargers, but carelessly using the wrong ones.
Second incident. My husband is bad to drop an extra battery into his pocket going out the door. Well, a few weeks ago, he does this and has change in his pocket. It's a brand new battery and as he goes to use it later, its completely dead. Nothing. Won't charge, anything. It killed it jingling around with that change, pocket knife, etc. But, no explosion, not even heat.
So, in 7 plus years, and a LOT of stupid carelessness, we are still kicking. While, obviously we need to be careful, it's not as scary as it seems. As long as you use basic common sense, you will be fine.
