Hi,

I've been lurking a bit on & off for years. That's how long I've (intermittently) entertained the thought of vaping, but never took the plunge. I really, really, really wanted to stop smoking cigarettes, but knew I never would. Some people stop cold turkey, others utilize the assistance of medications and/or other techniques, but me? Seriously? At 2+ ppd x 44 years, most of those smoking Newport 100's, it's just not going to happen. Besides, vaping sounded waaaay too complicated.

Wicks? I have to change those? Okay, maybe I can handle that. So I'd need to keep filling with juice and changing wicks. Oh, wait. I'd have to change coils too? Cartos, clearos, huh? Are those tanks?? What is a drip tip? They look like mouth-pieces, but surely if they were mouth-pieces they'd be called "mouth-pieces", no? Bottom coil, top coil, warm vape, cool vape... Oy! I guess I need to read more.

Uh oh! Ohms? Watts? Voltage?? I vaguely remember Ohm's Law - I think! Crap, do I need meters too? Wasn't resistance part of that? Yikes! I'm going to blow something up.

This sounds way too involved. Forget about it!

[One year later...]

Surfed around & read some more. Wait... Are those little thingys sticking out of the sides of the coils the wicks? Does that mean you change the entire coil when you have to change the wick? Do you throw that metal part out? Nah... That can't be. I guess I'd need a good magnifying glass and tweezers, because I'd never be able to thread a wick back into a coil. Who am I kidding? This is still way too involved.

[Another year later...]

Surfed the net again and came across the ECF thread, "The Best Starter Kit I've Ever Seen". Hey! This doesn't seem too complicated! Something must be wrong, because it sounded too easy.

[Months later...]

Back to that same thread. Read it entirely multiple times, then ordered two of the recommended kits. I was so excited, I could hardly sleep. Might I really like it? Could I really quit, maybe??

The kits finally arrived and, while they were great, I was disappointed. The juices I ordered to go along with them tasted just "eh" and I knew immediately vaping them wasn't going to replace cigarettes. I also missed reading anywhere that vaping required a different inhalation technique than smoking and I was coughing my brains out.

I was determined to play with my new "toy" since it was already paid for, even if it didn't replace smoking. I ordered assorted juices from a few different vendors. I found one particular juice that was actually strong enough without tasting "off" to me... OMG, I think I might be able to enjoy this as a cig replacement!!!!!

Holy crap! An entire day later and I didn't even want a cigarette. Get out!!!!!!!!!! Moi???????

It's now 48 days since I've had a cig and I have no desire to have one, never mind that I'm having a blast with new equipment (already) and playing with juices. 48 days??? In 44 years, I never went longer than 13 hours without a smoke. OMFG!!!!!!!!! It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't have done it without all of you who so generously shared your knowledge and experiences and two people, in particular, on the thread I previously mentioned. I'll swing by there to thank them once I make my 5 newbie posts.

Hugs, kisses and a BIG THANK YOU!

Hi, I'm dave the rave and I'm a vaper :) Like most people I guess, started out with a cigalike, progressing quickly on to vivi nova/egos through to an itaste mvp (still one of my favourite mods) and on to ... a Provari, which I'm tooting on today. Also got a few mechs, drippers, and just landed a cana modz. My latest escapade is rayon wicking, here's me with the box it arrived in :

Thank you to everyone else for the welcome. :)

I thought I was going to save money vaping. Ha! Where did I get that silly idea from? More juices, more vendors and now it's time to upgrade equipment (again). To say I'm having a blast would be an understatement, so it's money very well spent. Heck, it's money well spent for kicking the analogs alone.

I'm still amazed I am smoke free and know I couldn't have done it without all of you. You folks rock!

Hi CheyDee and welcome. Great story and congratulations on finally quitting. :)

I was also a heavy smoker for over 30 years. By the time I decided to quit, I was smoking up to 2 packs of Newport 100's per day. I tried nicotine patches, nicotine gum and sheer willpower. Nothing worked! But as soon as I tried an e-cig, I knew I had found my solution. It helped me quit instantly and I had no cravings. Haven't touched an analog in over two years and have no desire to.

As for saving money...... Once you find your favorite setup, or two, or three (lol) your spending should level out and you should end up spending much less than you would on two packs a day. That's if you don't get bitten by the shopping bug like many of us have.

I like sharing the following with new members as it sums things up pretty well.....

I'M TIRED OF PAYING TOBACCO COMPANIES TO KILL ME!!!

Congratulations. Good Luck & Happy Vaping.

Sounds like me and that Blu disposable I tried just "for the heck of it" then forgot--FORGOT--to light up for, like, nine hours.

I was stunned. Just... stunned...

Welcome aboard!
