Hi,
I've been lurking a bit on & off for years. That's how long I've (intermittently) entertained the thought of vaping, but never took the plunge. I really, really, really wanted to stop smoking cigarettes, but knew I never would. Some people stop cold turkey, others utilize the assistance of medications and/or other techniques, but me? Seriously? At 2+ ppd x 44 years, most of those smoking Newport 100's, it's just not going to happen. Besides, vaping sounded waaaay too complicated.
Wicks? I have to change those? Okay, maybe I can handle that. So I'd need to keep filling with juice and changing wicks. Oh, wait. I'd have to change coils too? Cartos, clearos, huh? Are those tanks?? What is a drip tip? They look like mouth-pieces, but surely if they were mouth-pieces they'd be called "mouth-pieces", no? Bottom coil, top coil, warm vape, cool vape... Oy! I guess I need to read more.
Uh oh! Ohms? Watts? Voltage?? I vaguely remember Ohm's Law - I think! Crap, do I need meters too? Wasn't resistance part of that? Yikes! I'm going to blow something up.
This sounds way too involved. Forget about it!
[One year later...]
Surfed around & read some more. Wait... Are those little thingys sticking out of the sides of the coils the wicks? Does that mean you change the entire coil when you have to change the wick? Do you throw that metal part out? Nah... That can't be. I guess I'd need a good magnifying glass and tweezers, because I'd never be able to thread a wick back into a coil. Who am I kidding? This is still way too involved.
[Another year later...]
Surfed the net again and came across the ECF thread, "The Best Starter Kit I've Ever Seen". Hey! This doesn't seem too complicated! Something must be wrong, because it sounded too easy.
[Months later...]
Back to that same thread. Read it entirely multiple times, then ordered two of the recommended kits. I was so excited, I could hardly sleep. Might I really like it? Could I really quit, maybe??
The kits finally arrived and, while they were great, I was disappointed. The juices I ordered to go along with them tasted just "eh" and I knew immediately vaping them wasn't going to replace cigarettes. I also missed reading anywhere that vaping required a different inhalation technique than smoking and I was coughing my brains out.
I was determined to play with my new "toy" since it was already paid for, even if it didn't replace smoking. I ordered assorted juices from a few different vendors. I found one particular juice that was actually strong enough without tasting "off" to me... OMG, I think I might be able to enjoy this as a cig replacement!!!!!
Holy crap! An entire day later and I didn't even want a cigarette. Get out!!!!!!!!!! Moi???????
It's now 48 days since I've had a cig and I have no desire to have one, never mind that I'm having a blast with new equipment (already) and playing with juices. 48 days??? In 44 years, I never went longer than 13 hours without a smoke. OMFG!!!!!!!!! It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't have done it without all of you who so generously shared your knowledge and experiences and two people, in particular, on the thread I previously mentioned. I'll swing by there to thank them once I make my 5 newbie posts.
Hugs, kisses and a BIG THANK YOU!
