Howdy all,

Another guy fed up with the health and monetary issues that go with smoking cigs, has tried all of the 'approved' NRT's to no-avail, and even filled a 'scrip for Zyban (although I couldn't bring myself to try something designed as an anti-depressant that has the fun side effect of suicidal tendencies...). Somewhere along the line (two-ish years ago, according to the date I activated this account) I gave e-cigs a try. My first go-round with e-cigs featured a 'Smoke NV' fake-cig sporting pre-filled cartos of ash-tray flavoured liquid with absolutely no nicotine. While I did find moderate success for a couple of days with these, it wasn't long before I found myself reaching for the Real McCoy (Marlboro?) as it were.
Fast forward a to a couple of months back. A family member from out of town who is known for his love of chain-smoking was sporting this funny looking box thing that he kept puffing on, exhaling clouds of wonderful smelling pineapple-y vapor. Turns out that he had picked up e-cigs a week or two before, and had never looked back. He offered to assemble a starter kit with a few of his DIY liquids for me to see if I had the same luck (incidentally, I am still waiting on this).
In the mean-time, I noted a new shop opening in my little corner of the 'burbs (Port Coquitlam; 20mins east of Vancouver proper) - a vape shop no less! I wandered in out of curiosity, and after talking to the owner (an additions councilor); I ended up walking out with a (clone - but they never tried to pull the wool over my eyes) Kanger EVOD VV (1000mah) kit and a half-dozen little bottles of liquid. The next week, I found myself back there, buying a second battery, a box of heads, and another half-dozen bottles of liquid...all with the savings from the cigs I didn't smoke!

Sadly, I do still have that analogue crutch; the dreaded monkey on my back. On the plus side, I've gone from 1-1/2 to 2 packs of cigs a day down to four or five smokes - and I tend to regret it as soon as I ply flame. Yes, I vape like a fiend; yes, my tongue is a little dissatisfied with the constant stream of oil/water emulsifiers I pass over it; but my lungs are already thanking me - and my pocket-book loves that my habit has dropped from $120/wk to $30. And, to add incentive (as if I needed any more), my wife has agreed that if I can reach my goal of (cigarette) smoke free by October 1st and maintain it through years end, I can upgrade my truck (3500 Laramie, I'm looking at you!).

Beyond the vape, I am the former lead reviewer for PipesMagazine; Cuban reviewer for Cigar Chronicles and a member of the Vancouver Pipe Club. When I'm not smoking (or vaping), I can often be found taking the wife and kids into the beautiful B.C. back-country, (attempting to) golf, brewing beers, smoking (think bbq) or working on whatever project I've got on the go at the time (right now I'm restoring a '73 travel trailer).

Anyway, hopefully this time I can stick it out. Look forward to getting to know you all, happy clouds and all!

Welcome to ECF! Great intro!

Vancouver (and the lands to the north) are certainly one of the most beautiful areas on the planet!

You're lucky to have found a good vape shop! (From what we hear, the situation in Canada is all over the place between whether it's legal to sell nic liquids, whether it's legal to import vape gear, etc.) You seem to have lucked out!

What nic lvl are you at? That does matter a lot for newbies; IMHO
Get something else strong! When the urge hits you load the high mg juice and chain vape like crazy until you feel better.

I had that urge hit me a few times when I first converted over and the higher nic juice & chain vaping took me through; it did work. It will happen a few times; well it did for me anyway. Just be ready for it. I even had a standby pack. I remember one day it hit me on a saturday while i was getting food ready to BBQ and i was really ready to drop everything and drive to the store to grab a pack as I wanted bust through my wall like the Hulk. I grabbed my mod and some 18mg Pina Colada (that is high for me) and went onto the porch and vaped my head off for about 10 min until i felt "better". That was the last time it hit me like that. So expect a few times even if you haven't smoked in a couple of weeks.

Nice! sounds like your off to a good start. Part of my success is being willing to spend my past cigarette money on gear. The quality of your gear has a DIRECT result in the quality of your vape experience. That = not smoking. Not as bad as you guys of course but here in WA state cigs are dammed expensive! that quickly gave me the couple of hundred I spent........ so far.

Going to a mod that takes separate batteries was another game changer for me. Batteries last all day and only take a few hours to charge. I was buying a lot of spinners and doing the charging dance and really stressing out when I would break one or get out of sinc on charging them.

Welcome and see ya around the group!

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

I've jumped in with 18mg juice; perhaps a wander down to the local B&M for some 24mg is in order.

Incidentally, I`m currently paying between $11 - $14 per pack; analogues run me around $120 per week (think of all the kick ... gear I could own if I was to dedicate 100% of my cigarette fund to vaping!).

You can do it, guy! 24 is worth a try though 18 is pretty much a standard Marlboro. Everybody's different. It's mostly mental; just making up your mind that you're going to do it. There are a million little habits and cues that try to suck you back into smoking. You just have to laugh at them and say "Nope, not this time" and pick up your vape.

Welcome to this forum - there are a great many friendly and helpful folk here who've been there and have got your back.

Welcome.

I found 24 mg wasn't working for me and was able to up it to 36 mg, after 2 weeks I started backing off and after a year and a half I'm down to 3 to 6 mg depending on the e-liquid.

E-liquids with more PG (70%) = 3 mg and 50% or less PG = 6mg.

Just stick with it and find what works.

Have fun restoring the travel trailer. You might try looking up "Mark's RV garage" videos on his trailer restoration project.

Update: Ok now I've started watching the trailer restoration videos again.. It's been years since I watched these when they were originally posted.

to ecf Schmitz Bitz. So glad you are here. Glad you are giving it another chance and you have some great incentives. I did both at the beginning and after a while, I just preferred vaping. You have already cut back so much that you will be getting to that point too. Good luck to you and I look forward to reading about your new truck. :D

Nicotine does actually have a flavor; I find myself going back and forth as to whether I want the nic or I want the taste. 0MG liquid actually tastes a LOT better to me than the higher-nic liquids I often vape anywhere from 12-36 mg. The nicotine adds a bitter (some call it "peppery") taste. I think that's one of the main reasons people try a liquid at the B&M (most tasters are 0MG) and then don't like the liquid when they get home.

My best advice? Get some 0MG juice for when you want flavor, and some higher juice for when you want nic. (If they're both the same flavor it might help to see the difference! - Keep them in separate heads, though).
