Hi! I'm TWO DAYS clean from the slavery of cigarettes, thanks to my new friend--the ecig :) I have a 510, manual (and it's a pretty blue color!) I'm browsing the threads, but I have a couple of questions.

I bought mine at the local flea market, and I'm really happy with it so far. The hitting the button thing has, indeed, become second nature already and I love that I can puff with ease wherever and whenever I want (reasonably). The brand is vapor rising.

Can I use any juice to refill it, or do I need to order the juice from this company?

And how often should I be topping off? I feel like I'm topping it off 7-10 times a day, and I was under the impression that the little bottle was supposed to be a carton of cigs. Am I vaping too often because of the convenience? How anyone can answer that, I'm not sure :)

How long do your bottles last? My included bottle is 10ml and is Marboro Light flavor. I'm excited to try fruity flavors, too, and I want to try and find good deals.

Should I unplug the thing from the wall when it flashes charged?

I can pull the polyester batting from the thing, rinse it out and use it again? (Thus making my investment really work for me?)

I'm so in love with this thing. I'm a teacher and I can't wait to use it on my planning period :):)

TIA!

Hi BriPag, and welcome!

I'll answer what I can.....

You can use any juice you like, and you'll get a lot of differing opinions on what is good. You might take a look at the e-liquid reviews.

Topping off varies greatly among vapers. Many of us vaped a lot more than we smoked at first. Your body will tell you if it's too much or too little. You may need to try upping the nicotine some if you feel you aren't satisfied. You didn't mention what or how much you smoked. 10mg/ml is a low to moderate concentration. If you were a heavy smoker, you might need something higher.

You should not leave batteries in the charger for too long, as with any rechargeable battery, just for safety.......but it won't hurt them if you leave them in the charger for a while. I sometimes leave mine in overnight but probably shouldn't. I would not leave batteries in the charger when you leave home.

You can clean carts and cartos, but I don't. Many people do it successfully but I will leave it to them to explain since I just don't do it.

You've made a great choice. Good Luck!

Welcome and congrats!!!!!!! So glad you found ecigs. I actually add a couple drops in my cartos after about 10 puffs, then they never go dry. As for charging does it charge for 2 hrs? I always watch to be sure the light is off or on depends on the unit and then unplug, I do not over charge. As for cleaning cartos, you can wash them out by soaking in hot water for 20-30 min, then I use a dish detergent bottle cleaned out and filled with just hot clean water and squeeze thru the carto until it smells fresh and clean. Blow thru it to get water out and Let dry for 3-7 days. It makes a good way to test new juices and will give you another week of use. I have had no luck removing the filling because of the heating coil and wick, it messes them up.

As for vaping too much, I say no, they always say a carto is supposed to last whatever, but I say it is never accurate :) So vape away and drink plenty of water before and after you vape as it can be dehydrating. Enjoy! bnrk

Thank you! I actually just looked at my bottle, and it's a 10ml bottle, at 26mg! I didn't realize I had a high concentration until I came to this site and started reading about it. I like it, I'm not feeling weird with it (dizzy, sick, etc), so maybe I'll get the fruity ones a little lower and see if it's as satisfying. I was about a 1/2 pack a day smoker recently...I have two kids, and quit smoking the day I found out I was preggo with each of them. After they were about a month old (each time), I picked it back up. For a few months it was only 3-4 a day (i was, and still am nursing the little guy, he's 16 months now). I love smoking, I didn't want to stop, and this seems to be the only alternative that will keep my cravings satisfied!!

Welcome to ECF and congrats on the switch.

1. You can use any juice to refill. I buy mine at FreedomSmokeUSA They have a ton of different flavors that you can get sample sizes of. The customer service is top notch also.

2. Topping off carts is a pain. I'd get a drip tip if I were you. You can drip about 3 drops through it into your atomizer and vape away. Add 3 more when the flavor starts to swindle. There are also cartomizers that will give you a longer vape time between refills.

3. Personally my liquid lasts awhile because I buy what I'm going to need for a couple months. Also I'm at a point in my vaping career that I've found what works well for me.The journey is fun, try a lot of samples.

4. Yes, unplug when it is done charging.

5. You can rinse out the polyfil. Make sure it is dry before you put it back in and refill. See #2 for no more polyfil though.

Vaping is tons of fun and it works. March will be my 2 year mark smoke free. You can do this. Ask tons of questions here on ECF. We enjoy helping new vapers.

One thing to think about, as far as flavors are concerned, is the amount of "throat hit" you receive. Initially, some juices don't seem as strong tasting but that can change as your taste buds come back to life from smoking. I used tobacco flavors at first because I was trying to get the cigarette sensation. I quickly discovered that you could still get that throat hit (TH as it's called here) with other flavors.....but can be a journey finding flavors that you love. Also, the higher the nicotine level, the greater the TH.

Don't worry, you'll find your groove!

Hi BriPag and welcome :)
I started out on 36mg strength and stayed that way for months. I'm at 24mg now. I think the average is around 18-24mg so you're right in the ballpark. Also....the average usage seems to be around 2-3ml per day so a 10ml bottle won't last all that long.
You're doing great, stick with it :) It takes some time to get the right combination of stuff that works for you, you'll find it.

Welcome to ECF BriPag :).
Did you get the VR 510 starter kit, with the atomizers and 5 cartridges? If so, carts (cartridges) are a lot different than cartos (cartomizers), as carts are separate from the atty (atomizer) and cartos have them built in. It's easy to clean carts, you can take the batting out and clean it and the cart, let it dry (I used a paper towel and squeezed as much of the water out as I could, and let it air dry for a couple of hours, put it back in, making sure you get it all the way in, no stuffing sticking past the top, and reuse it. Cartos have the atty built in and are more difficult to clean, but I clean mine after a couple of weeks.
The one I saw has a fairly small battery, 190mAh, so will last about 2 hrs a charge (100mAh = approx. 1hr), and I can't tell from the website if it has actual 510 threads, but if it does you can get cartos for it, which hold a lot more juice and IMO give a better hit than carts.
I go through 2-3 ml a day, ymmv, so you may want to look into more juice soon.
Here is a thread that lists a lot of people's favorite juices and some say where they got them, interesting reading and can enlighten you :) as to how many flavors you can enjoy :

I recommend trying cartos. I think you'll find them much more convenient to use. They hold more juice than a cart as well so you won't have to keep refilling as often as you do now.
If you do get some cartos, make sure you get standard resistance cartos (around 3.0ohm)
Low resistance cartos(around 2.0ohms or lower) will give a warmer vape and more TH. Low resistance cartos are only for batteries that are 450mah+. Using LR cartos on your ecig could kill the battery. So make sure you get SRs. If it is a 510 connection try the Boge 3.0ohm cartos, they work well and are popular cartos

Most people go through at least 2ml per day, some go through 4-5ml per day. BTW Strictlyejuice.com has precut blue foam stuffing for 510 cartridges cheap (search there for foam). if you are going to use atomizer + cartridges you will eventually need to restuff and the blue foam holds its shape well.

Also get some cartomizers. Most people use cartomizers for their everyday juices. You can use anything 2.5 to 3 ohms and 510-threaded on a slim 510. The most popular cartomizers are Boge 510. I use thin clear juices in cartomizers - PG w/ 20% or less VG. You can use eliquid from anywhere but cartomizers don't work well with thick juice so I would keep the VG low. I also avoid juices that drop flavoring sediment (typically dark, opaque, cloudy juices). Sediment shortens the life of a cartomizer. I can get 10 days use out of a Boge if I keep it damp so it doesn't singe.

Cartomizers hold more liquid and generally give a more even vaping experience. Every one is like having a fresh atomizer since the atomizer coil is built in. And they keep your favorite flavors totally separate. I use atomizer and drip tip (on a manual battery) to test juices and vape some occasional and thicker juices, and put my everyday thin juices in cartomizers.

--
To fill a Boge - use your finger and tissue or a cartomizer cover spike to block the threaded end hole and make the carto soak up its stated capacity of juice. I make 1ml cartos like Boge take at least 18 drops (wait for the first few to soak in, then continue once the top of the stuffing is dampened). After the 18 drops, I wait 30 seconds then see how many more drops it will soak in. Then you clean it up. Then settle it since this is the first fill - lay on different sides for 15-20 minutes (longer if you use thicker juice than most use). After that just vape and keep it damp to avoid singeing it and getting burnt bitter taste. I can get 7+ days use out of a cartomizer, usually 10+ out of a Boge.

Definitely get cartomizers. What you have now is a cartridge, and you have to refill it constantly. The cartomizers last much longer between refills. Boge is a good one, like Dormouse said. You may want to try some 18 mg. juices. Get the smallest bottles you can, in case you don't like them. (I learned that one the hard way.) I have only been vaping for 2 weeks, but I have found with the higher mgs. like you have, I am a little jittery. But whatever works for you!

About the 10ml bottle = a carton....they lied. I vape close to half that in a day, and never smoked more than a pack or so a day.

Re vaping "too often"-- if you were getting too much nicotine you'd feel queasy. It's more likely that you're vaping so much because you are NOT getting the amount of nicotine your body is used to.

You can use any juice you like.

You can wash the batting or wind a piece of a throw pillow to size around a paper clip and stuff it in there! Poly batting is poly batting, it's nothing special.

And an answer to a question you didn't ask: Batteries will usually last a lot longer than atomizers, so you really need to buy a few spares atomizers. The ones I buy from Cig-Not (all female company) burn for months. I think it helps to rotate them, I don't let mine get too hot.

RE "Gotta get cartomizers..." You will most likely switch to cartomizers or , even better in my opinion, tanks at some point. But there's no rush. If you like what you're doing, do it.

Congratulations on quitting smoking!
