I feel the need to post a thread thanking the people on this forum for sharing their expertise and experiences. It has helped me tremendously!
I found this forum a couple of weeks ago because I was completely frustrated with the rather expensive brand of automatic PV I had started using on dec 9th, 2010. I really shouldn't diss it too bad because I was able to quit smoking the first day I used it. I threw my analogs away and haven't touched one since.
I had been smoking since I was a teenager, I am now 51 years old. A little over a year ago I learned I had an aggressive cancer in both breasts. To make a long story short, I went through 6 months of chemo, then surgery to remove both breasts. I was incredibly lucky. When the tissue was sent for testing there was no trace of the tumors! I had responded very well to the chemo. Also ther was no lymph node involvement. The thing is I continued to smoke throughout the entire ordeal! When it was all over I knew in my heart it was complete stupidity to continue to smoke as I felt I had been given a good chance at life and I just couldn't continue to take that for granted. I am a Home Health nurse and it was one of my Patients that introduced me to electronic cigarettes. Prior to that I had never even heard of one! I started googling and thought I had researched pretty well. Chose a brand and ordered it. As I said it was very frustrating to use so I started searching some more and found this forum! Thanks to this forum I decided on the Riva 510 and can't be more pleased with it! It arrived yesterday.....I powered them up as per instructions and have been in vapng heaven today! I love it! Very easy to use....and the taste.....the experience, everything is to me even better than an analog! I will never go back! So, once again thank you all for sharing your knowlege and for all the encouragement you give those who visit here!

It's great to hear stories like this! I started vaping right b4 xmas and sort of got ripped off but since then i only smoked analogs once when the ripoff died on me. Unfortunately my body didnt like going back to smoking and i ended up being sick with a really bad sinus infection which i am still fighting off. But i found njoy npro from 7-eleven 10 days ago...since then i have recovered rather nicely from my infection..more like a head cold and getting better everyday! i know the npro isnt the best out there, but it was only 20 bucks and i could afford it and i had some leftover eliquid from the other ecig. i just did a mod to the cartomizer...Dogs NF mod http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-nf-carto-mod-kr8-atty-510-vertical-atty.html and now i have new life in my cheap cartomizer! I am so excited to be vaping and feeling all the energy that i had maybe ten years ago when i was only half way into my 20 years of smoking. I figure give myself another 2 weeks or so and i will be more like my real age of 39. And i even have customers where i work starting to vape and ask questions...and we have a lot of smokers at my coffee shop! could become a revolution! hee hee. And as a newb i want to thank all of yall for all your great info. its really helped me to enjoy my vaping as well as sate my craving for info lol

Thank you! And I will pass the word along. 90% of the other nurses and office staff I worfk with are smokers. I can't wait for Monday so I can get them all totry out the Riva!

I forgot to ask on my previous post...............what is the difference between a LR atomiser (510 Riva) and a regular atomiser. I have read many posts recommending the LR atomiser and plan to order at least 5 replacement atomiser for my starter kit.

Welcome to ECF and contrats on quitting.

LR attys are designed to give you warmer vapor, more like a cig. For the Riva / ego batteries
the recommendations are not to go below 2.0 ohms because it can have an effect on battery life.

Better vendors will list the ohms for their attys / cartos, without knowing the number, it's
like buying juice in low, med., high - no number of mg/mL and you don't know what you're getting.

Hi dark oasis.

Good that you are here. And a really optimistic and life confirming story that you have. It needs a wider audience!
So fine!

Your question: LR means Low Resistance, which will make the atomizer to be heating more. Many will find that they get better vapour and flavour from this. Downside is that they (generally) have a shorter duration. And that the draw on the battery will increase. The general recommendation is to NOT use batteries below 450 mah for LR. The Riva is 750mah, usually, so it'll do the job. Juice consumption may increase, too.

The alternative to LR*) is HV (High(er) Voltage) on the PV, which will have the same effect on the regular atomizers. And then you are into the MOD's section. VV (Variable Voltage) PV's exist too, then you can turn a knob according to your mood(s) :)

*)Maybe you don't even need LR or "more power" at all ?

Good luck to you!

This is a common misconception, mah is a measure of how much power a battery will hold, not the ability of the electronics to provide that power to the atty.
The amps that need to be delivered to the atty is the limiting factor for Riva /ego batteries, and their internal electronics MAY fail. Many users have used LR with no issues, many have had issues. YMMV

Welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on quitting and on your perseverance through your cancer ordeal. Good to hear you are doing better and cancer free.

My wife had to go through chemo again last year (for the fourth time) so I know how hard it can be on a person - mentally and physically.

Again, congrats and well done on the choice to vape. Hope you continue to do well!

Yeah. I hear ya. If these things had existed 50 years ago, I might have had more years with my Grandfather, Grandmother, Aunt, Stepfather, etc.... but we have them now, and that's what counts. My sisters and my neices and nephew will have more years of me being around, thanks to PV's. Man, awsome testimony... I'll bet you have more "converts" than I do in a few months, lol! Kinda hard to keep quiet about vaping when you realize how much it changes your life, eh?

I think most people here got burned on their first PV; I know I did. "Free Trial", "Monthly Refill Program", all that BS. Even though I got ripped off, though, that first one got me to realize this. And it's all been good from there.

On the LR thing, there's an ongoing debate it seems. Some say don't worry about it, some say it'll kill an eGo. I think it depends on the ohms of the atty/carto... I never had problems with an LR atty or carto, but all of mine were rated at or above 2.0 ohms. I have to concur with a poster above: know your ohms if you go LR, and you should be ok. If you want to go 'full tilt', try something 3.7v :)

edit: Oh, and make sure to get a "backup"... always have a backup... and a backup for your backup, lol.... you don't ever want to be stuck in a position where you're actually thinking of going back to the "stinkies".

Congrats on saving your OWN life. Standing ovation here! Have fun with the kids / grandkids / everyone you love with the years you've just added to your time on the good green Earth. What an awesome story. If you were here, I'd hug ya.

Well, yes you are right that LR will put more strain on the battery system. And reveal possible weaknesses that would not emerge otherwise. The recommendation is the general one - even for the Riva/eGo batteries. Also batteries in a MOD type may disfunction prematurely. The replacement cost is lower, tho :)

And.. using a high speed USB charger (450mah) which is good for Riva/eGo/Tornado btw, may end up busting the PC USB connection. And caution on this type of charger for "small" 510 batteries; high chances they might blow off (explode?).

I'm using a couple LR atty's on my Tornado/eGo (I have both brands, using them at random) and haven't noticed any problems.
Never say never, though :)

Awwww......Thanks for the feel good words!! Lord knows chemo is the last thing I would ever want to repeat, and I am going to do everything I can to not take any risks! Thats why I am so thankful for finally finding the answer for me at least to quit smoking. Catman....God bless your wife for her ordeal! All my best wishes to you both!

after all your advice I will make sure of what I am buying, 2.0ohms and no less! And as you say hiram13pm......I plan to have plenty of backups! You are so right. Its impossible to keep quiet about such a live saving solution to a problem so many people have. I sure hope to have plenty of converts! The people I work with are more like my family than co workers!

Wow, what an awesome story. I have to agree with pretty much every post I've read about vaping vs. smoking. I know I feel a lot better now that I don't smoke. Quiting sucked because I just enjoyed smoking so much. Vaping has been an awesome solution for me as well. I don't have the awe inspiring story like you do, but when my daughter said that "smoking will make you sick" day after day, I had to take it to heart. Congrats on winning both battles. I think you just beat the two hardest things a human could ever fight: cancer and cigs. You are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to ECF dark oasis. I'm glad you found ECF. So much good advice here and people sharing their experiences. Be sure and let us know what your co-workers think about vaping. Maybe you'll have a whole vaping group before long.

I also vape with a Riva and an eGo and am satisfied. I use 2.0 ohm LR attys and have have luck with them so far. You'll have fun with trying different eJuices. Happy vaping.
