I haven't been for years. Gave it up after a few valiant tries with current hubby. Sorry, he's wunnerful in many ways, but primitive tent camping ain't his strong suit.

Unfortunately he came home from a golf scramble Sunday with a big new 2-room dome tent from Bass Pro Shops. It brought back memories I thought I'd suppressed...permanently. He's all excited about camping. I'd rather check into rehab.

My favorite places were Ferdinand State Park and someplace we stumbled on at Blue River. Outhouses only, no showers. Loved it. Hiking at Ferdinand is fabulous, and I might actually be able to do it now without coughing up a lung.

I can see this sucking up all the money I'm not spending on stinkies. New air mattress etc etc etc. Any brave outdoorsy souls out there? Canoeing and kayaking is a riot at Blue River. It just seems like Hubby is a camping-disaster-magnet. Chiggers (hundreds of them), ticks (hundreds of them IN OUR TENT), SEVERE thunderstorms, canoes that hit every rock in the river and every brush pile on the shore...maybe if just drink more beer:toast:

I'm rambling. I'll shut up now and call rehab.

We got to ceraland every year. I grew up in the woods. My father worked at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in Seymour and we lived on the Refuge. He recently retired, but I camped out in the woods all the time with my buddies. After my Iraq visit, I'm not so much into primitive camping anymore. Big camper, air, bed, internet, is the camping of my choice. lol...

Reserve me a bed at rehab too. We can all use some. lol We are typical indiana folk.

I LOVE camping! Any time of year, any weather, primitive style. In fact, I once camped for the weekend in Indiana alone in a tent in February when it was so cold that my lamp oil froze. Well - it turned into a gloppy gel sort of stuff.

Before my husband and I built a house here, we used to drag the kids here for two or three weeks at a time once or twice every summer. We'd go creek-walking, berry picking, fossil collecting, cook over the campfire every night, and tell stories. No TV, no computers, no mobile phones. It was great bonding with the kids, and pretty great bonding for us as well. :D

We camped here so much that eventually my husband built us a Perma-Potty. He cut one end off of a 50 gallon oil drum and sank it into a hole he dug about 2/3 of its height. Then he cut a hole in the end above ground and attached a toilet seat to it. That was the height of luxury! The funny thing is, we later discovered that you could see our Perma-Potty via satellite on Google Earth!!

one day it will be full, and lmao at the google earth shot haha!
Glad it tickled your funny bone. :) Actually, it's emptying out quite nicely. He cut the bottom off of the drum before he sank it into the ground. But alas, the metal is rusting fairly rapidly. You either have to be really light or really brave to sit on that thing nowadays. I wouldn't want to fall in ...

McCormicks Creek update:
We had a great time. There were only ~ 5 other campers in the park the whole week. I love pre and post season camping! We had rain one day but planned for that so all was good. The stables were open so we went horse back riding. It's been a while since I've been on a horse so I had problems walking afterwards. Of course being 6' 5" tall and 250 lbs they brought out the biggest freaking horse they had for me to ride. It's hell getting older. The camp store was only open on the weekends. It was nice havin the whole part to ourselves.
