Hey everyone, I have looked at my local lowes and home depot today thinking that I could waltz in and find some stainless steel mesh and kanthal wire. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts. I even pulled up pics and descriptions for them and still nothing. I have searched the forums and all kinds of websites, hd.com radioshack.com etc etc. Is there any other name for the stuff that they might use in the stores? I just don't feel like ordering online and it would be nice to walk into the store and purchase some if needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried calling any local vape shops? I know of at least 4 here in AZ in reasonable proximity that sell kanthal. My closest shop sells it a dollar a yard which is actually a really good deal. It's not as cheap as buying a 100 ft spindle off ebay maybe, but it's well worth buying local for me as the need arises. One of my shops I frequent sells mesh and ekowool, the other just opened up and sells ribbon wire, ekowool, I think mesh, and soon XC 116 and XC 132. Good luck!

I have ordered from OKC vapes before but was just trying to be hopeful to find it in stores. My local vape shop is just getting started, they sell an rba or two but don't have any spare except what comes with the kits. I will just have to suck it up I suppose, was just hoping I was slow or something and it was called something else in stores lol

Kanthal is the actual brandname and trademark and is a heating wire. it is used in heaters and toaster and thing like that. I doubt any off the shelf DIY stores would ever carry it seeing what it is used for. (not like the average backyard warrior is building space heaters).

and stainless mesh can be found at Granger and mcmaster carr sometimes.

dont see what the problem online is, usually cheaper, and you buy enough it's once and done.

I get mesh at steam monkey or okc vapes around 10 bucks for a sq foot.
and wire from temco - around 9 bucks for 100 ft so its not like you need to keep ordering it.

My local vape shop is just getting started,
if your looking to help them get stocked they need to hit up temco for bulk orders as the are a distributor and have spools up to a mile lol in just about every size. and they need to hit somewhere like alibaba for a direct link to the mesh makers if not getting rolls from granger.

Thanks I appreciate that. I have been going and hanging out everyday amongst buying up everything they put out lol. I will definitely try and get them to order from those people. I will just got ahead and order online when I get paid, just have to stock up I suppose. It is hard ordering online because If i order from a vape store I can't just order one or two things haha.

They use nichrome in toasters. :)

oh yea? well ....um how about your rice cooker?

but I dont doubt it, just referring to more about overall usage and why they wouldnt stock it.

"The Kanthal program includes several products for generation, measurement and control of heat in all types of household appliances, such as small electric appliances, white goods and gas appliances"

I cant see home depot having supplies to build a heating panel for my central AC.

Not sure about a rice cooker. Never tore one apart before. But I did take apart my toaster so I could use the nichrome strips in my kiln. I'm not disputing Home Depot having Kanthal and stainless steel mesh. But a glass shop might. That's where I get ekowool and Kanthal wire for glass work and soldering. And some carry stainless steel mesh in different mesh sizes for sifting enamels.
