Is there anything somewhat safe and legal that's similar to nicotine? Hopefully less addictive but beggars can't be choosers. Any ideas?

and is relatively safe and legal. its the closest you will get.Uhmmm. Snus is still nicotine.
But to OP, no, not that I know of. Caffeine is probably the closest.
But the OP asked for substitute for nicotine (not a substitute for vaping that still contained nicotine), I would assume, he wants to use something other than nicotine with similar effects.and is relatively safe and legal. its the closest you will get.
i understand what your saying, i only posted snus because although it is nicotine, its not well known and may indeed be something the op could try if nothing else suggested works. But the OP asked for substitute for nicotine (not a substitute for vaping that still contained nicotine), I would assume, he wants to use something other than nicotine with similar effects.
Kratom comes to mind..
It's legal and if your job is testing you for cotine you won't pop.
Early into my vaping adventure, I DIY'd a juice that was half Passionflower Root Extract and half 30mg Tobacco Flavored niquid and it made me feel incredibly high, like unable to speak or complete a thought high, and then my throat swole and partially closed up. So, I don't do that anymore. I have no negative reaction to it if I take it the way it's supposed to be taken, diluted in glass of water, and it definitely is calming.
Lobelia supposedly acts on the same receptors that nicotine hits and is supposed to block the effects of it. I guess it's an antagonist like Naltrexone for alcoholics which prevents a buzz if the person drinks while taking it, rewiring the brain to no longer associate the substance with euphoria.
