The RC batteries that I am used to look like these -

TowerHobbies.com | Associated Reedy VMX R-46 IB4600 Matched Cells 5C

Not sure if it's the same as what you're referring to. These are the individual cells that they normally put in the 7.2V packs.

They are C sized cells and put out about 1.2V per cell. Would take 4 of them to reach just under 5V. These would make a mod heavy and bulky, compared to their Li-ion cousins.

Look at the discharge rate though. 35A!

EDIT: Re-read your post and missed the word "small" I would suspect they may have similar attributes though, just lower mAh?

IB 4600 cells are very very good batteries ! (speeking about RC)
I programed trying them for a mod soon , but , you need at least 3 bats (they use to receive more volts than 1.2v. )
But even 3 , would be an heavy stuff ! ...

About lipo's batteries (like helico's ones) , be carrefull , they dont use to be protected... A lipo element is 3.7v , so is not possible without limitator to use 2S Lipos. (as the nimh , they use to stock more volts). And lipos are squar en "big"

Yeah I was thinking of the heli that fits in your hand, way smaller than the ones you guys are talking about.

I don't know that I would try. They need a balance charger to make sure they aren't overcharging. When they fail, they do so spectacularly and I wouldn't want it anywhere near my face when that happens. I had one fail on the charger and the flames went about 3 feet in the air. I was charging it in the house, not in a charging box, and caught the wall and the ceiling of the kitchen on fire.

Thats a sweet little machine. I have a Blade 400 but want something smaller for in the house. I may just have to go get one.
I've got a Belt-CP and the wife has a T-rex 450. We have a couple of those Blade MCX helis for indoors. Lots of fun, but coaxial and not quite the same as the big CCPMs.

there is no way Id want that unstable li-po close to my face ...
No doubt. I don't particularly like them inside the house, and recharge them inside an old ammo can.

Li-po's can be real finicky. I actually have an extention cord ran out to the middle of the yard into a hole drilled in an ammo can for charging. After catching the house on fire I take no chances! A good balance charger is essential and even then is no guarantee.

Yeah, I spent more on the charger and balancer and power supply than all of the LiPo batteries combined.

The ammo can was free. They get charged in a cement room in the basement, on a timer power strip, and I carry a kitchen timer with me when I recharge. Those things are crazy dangerous. Problems are not-quite-rare, and the flames they put out are insane.

"I would think there is much less resistance in the motors then there is in an atty so they would not last long at all in an e-cig."
You have it backwards. Higher resistance gives longer batter life, due to lower current drain.

For a single cell (ie 3.7v) a balancer is not needed. (and in fact would do nothing if you used one)
While I agree that I wouldn't want a lipo close to my face, the fact remains that I often forget and carry a lipo close to my penis. My phone uses one. Theirs a fair chance yours does too. That would be far more catastrophic than a burnt face.

As for the heli's, I have a honeybee fp. Really it is far too big for the room I fly it in, but I feel that has improved my skills. I charge the batterys on an old food plate with a homemade charger. Perhaps some would think this foolish, but i trust myself more than some stressed and bored Chinese man on a rubbish wage.

OMG...That got me a good chuckle! Never thought of it that way.

So a battery will last longer igniting an atomizer, which is basically a direct short, than it will powering a free spinning brushless motor?
Probably not.
I was commenting on your previous post,

"I would think there is much less resistance in the motors then there is in an atty so they would not last long at all in an e-cig."

The resistance of a motor is higher. A dead short is close to 0 ohms. A free spining brushless motor, while I do not know the specific value, is far more than 0 ohms. Higher resistance leads to lower current drain and therefore longer battery life.

I only wish to help people. I think "ohms law" is important for anybody working with batterys. I suggest you learn about it.
