I notice I cough some with higher PG mixes (30% and above). Some flavoring can make you cough as well. I've noticed that I've been coughing more in the last couple of days. I've been vaping solid for over 2 months. Some of it is the fact that your lungs are starting to clean themselves out. How long have you been vaping? Are you still on some analogs?

Hey all,

I notice it's not uncommon for me to start coughing when I puff my e-cig. I am not taking huge puffs either. The fact that I am coughing it would seem my lungs are trying to tell me that they do not like the e-cig vapor.

Does anyone else cough a lot when using e-cigs?

When I first started vaping (not long ago), I would have a dry cough. Part of it was that I was vaping more than I had been smoking (because of the novelty). I also had a higher nicotine level than I would have been smoking (didn't realize, being a newbe), and, as Hippieangst stated, some people react to the higher PG mixes, and I may be one of those as I don't seem to have issues since changing my nicotine level. It's a learning process, this vaping thing, and there's so much you can have answered/learn on this forum. One other thing, BTW, do remember to drink a lot of water -- vaping can dry you.

Definitely could be the PG, I prefer a mix with 70% VG and 30% PG or sometimes even 10-20% Propylene Glycol. And different flavors definitely vape differently. For example, one of my ADVs (all day vapes) is peanut butter and that has a much harsher throat hit than say, your average fruity vapes... I've noticed peanut butter and cheesecake has more TH than even the tobacco flavors. I usually vape at around 4.3-4.5 volts, but I only need around 3.9 volts when I'm vaping PB or cheesecake.
Plus, the first couple of weeks after I first cut down on smoking (from a pack a day to about a pack a week), I was hacking up a lung, too. It's just your body cleaning itself and straangely, it doesn't happen until about a week after you quit. I guess the body waits a while to see if you actually quit for real, lol!

I think all of us probably coughed when we first started. It goes away or at least it did in my case. I found that if you took a draw and held it in your mouth for an extra second or two and then inhaled that you would not cough. Don't know if I am making myself clear. I never have understood the don't vape like you smoked theory. I even watched YouTube videos. I vape exactly like I smoked. The only thing I have noticed is I vape more than I ever smoked for some reason. I guess it's because it tastes so much better. Good luck to you. Give it a chance to resolve itself. Welcome to the forum. There is no problem that you could come up with that someone here won't be able to help you. :vapor:
