I use mainly AW's in 16340 and 18350 but ran across some good deals on Amazon for disposable 123 3v used in cameras.

I'm not saying to use these going forward but some of these supposedly have a 10 year shelf life. I live in a rural area and if the power goes out, it would be nice to have a dozen of these safetly tucked away. Would these work? Anybody know the vape time on them?

Thanks

I'm thinking you won't get the same performance out of those 3 volt primaries. The AW batteries come hot off the charger at 4.2 volts. They might get you by in an emergency tho.

I would suggest buying one at your local Walgreens, CVS, Walmart etc to try it out before spending a bunch of bucks at Amazon.

ETA: Er, also, there may be a problem with the maximum amp draw with those primaries. I don't know for sure but I think the AW's can handle a much heavier amp draw.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to buy a set to try out and I'll report back on what I find. What I really like about this are the possibilities with the long shelf life.

Yes, the shelf life is amazing. I have a supply of cr123's that I keep on hand for a couple of flashlights that require them.

And I am really interested to know how they work out for you. (Just watch for signs of over heating)

You will have to see what the c rating is for the batteries to tell if they will have the umpf to fire the atty.

If you try them, take the time to feel if the batteries are getting hot. It's a good indication of if you are overloading them.

If they work they would not be practical but a good safety net

If your worried about power failures I think a better option would be a backup battery for you computer, that will help you in more ways than one and last many many charging cycles during a power failure, think of is as a big pcc. They aren't that expensive, I've got one from APC while I haven't tested it for this purpose I have no doubt it would least me through any power failure I'll ever have. Another safety net is a car charger.
