It's legal again, and I'm getting into it. The whole deal, the ritual, the fountain, the spoons, the glasses, all the accoutrements, and I have 3 bottles of the best stuff on the way from Europe's Combier Distillery. It's my new hobby
I have had it. Interesting flavor. I like that it has the whole ritual to making it.
I have also had it straight. very strong flavor.
Well Lucid is a good starting point, though nothing like the real thing from Europe. Le Tourment was not treated well at all in the Wormwood Society review which while allowing that it was not terrible, added that it's not absinthe either.
If you have a further interest in the good stuff I would recommend the Jade line. Jade PF 1901, or Jade VS 1898.

The first absinthe I tried was Absente, and it was quite a disappointment. It's not even the real thing, and as I said earlier, there are a lot of fakes out there trying to trade on the name absinthe, now that it's become legal again. Again, Lucid is a starting point, but once you try the real thing from Europe your eyes will be opened.
And also, no, it's not hallucinogenic, doesn't make you go crazy and cut off your ear like Van Gogh, or any of that rubbish. There's a lot of false mythology out there about absinthe. It's just a very good drink, if you get the right stuff.
I like the whole ritual thing too, and the rich cultural history of it.
Here's a very good documentary on it:
Watch Absinthe flv
I am suddenly interested again. A Local place has these available. I want to give it another round before I try ordering anything.
Kubler Absinthe
Vieux Carre Absinthe Superieure
Pernod
The Kubler Absinthe or Vieux Carre Absinthe Superieure are what I am leaning towards.
I am interested in which juice will end up going good with the absinthe. My go to when drinking is Plume Room Burley and Candy.
I've had some very messy nights on the green stuff....
