well, not that I'm an alcoholic *cough* but I've come off a night shift and, before bed I've decided to indulge myself with a glass of my newly purchased bottle of "Aberlour - a'bunadh" (whisky, 60%) and god it's so awesome, it better be for £30 but it's the best whisky i've ever tasted and I love my whisky so I thought i'd just have a random little post exclaiming my new love for this stuff

seeing as my whole smoking addiction started over nights spent at the pub pre-ban I was just wondering what tipple (drink) takes the fancy of the people on this board? ;-)

I'm with you on the Laphroaig SJ ... smells like industrial strength hospital cleaner ... tastes divine

Bit of a fan of cognac as well, the better, the better.
Usual tipple would be a glass or 4 of wine, mostly reds, or a well crafted real ale, beer or a pils. Been guzzling up a fair amount of Belgian beer just lately, trappists, abbey and lambics

I can't drink whisky any more cos it really does bounce my bp. Back in the day I liked Irish whiskey more than Scotch, although one memorable highlands visit nearly converted me (Caol Ila, anyone?).

Mostly drink lager in pubs: Becks Vier, Amstel, Hoegaarden (Wheat Beer) or Tuborg (draught Tuborg is very rarely available in UK)

I love real ale but won't drink it in pubs because these whippersnappers don't know how to handle beer. (I'm from a family of publicans and have been a landlord). I regularly go to beer festivals and you'll find me elbowing the beard 'n belly men aside to get at the Mild, which you never see in a pub these days.

Bottled lager at home (Corona, Sol, Amstel, Asahi, Cobra, TsingTao).

I only like white wine (trying to develop a taste for red, can't do it)
Chablis; Sancerre; Pinot Grigot. I like green wines and will try any new world variants.

Love sherry and port, gotta be aged.

Bombay Sapphire gin (with Schweppes Indian Tonic Water) and Stolichnaya or Absolut Vodka (with fresh OJ) are faves of mine. Current holding, 3 litres of each.

Have been known to swill the occasional cocktail.

Never have less than a gallon of brandy in the house.

I just recently realized that alcohol is a migraine trigger for me.

Suddenly all those times I would get a headache after having just one or two beers made sense. All those mornings when I was hung over but didn't think I had drank that much. All those well deserved hangovers that would last all the next day and night. Some of them may still have been actual hangovers, but most of em were migraines.

Now I'm trying to decide whether to quit, or just figure it's the price I have to pay. ;)
