Anyone give or receive an E-cig/pv as a gift? Good or bad idea?

I gave my Brother an eGo kit for his birthday, but only because he'd already expressed a lot of interest in using an e-cig to get off analogs. In general, I'd think it wouldn't go over so well - kind of like giving someone a box of Nicorette as a gift. It may seem to them like you're just getting on their case backhandedly for smoking. I try to lead by example and let others approach me about them. If they're really interested - great! And if they're a relative or a good enough friend, I've got a great idea for their next birthday if they haven't already made the jump by then.

For the record, three months later and my Brother is still off the sticks.

I got my first e-cig as a Christmas gift from a friend. It was the best gift I ever got! It was a total suprise. I replaced the small 510 with an ego with-in a month because I needed something with more battery life but I've been smoke free for almost 8 months now. Everytime I see my firend I say thank you for the amazing gift he gave me.:)

I received my first one as a birthday present... a $300 Smoking Everywhere kit. I hadn't been prepped, I was only vaguely aware of their existence, and I wasn't terribly interested...

I didn't take it well at all. I didn't want it, it was crappy equipment, and I still have all but one of the cartridges that came in the starter kit. Didn't take to it at all.

Someone has to want to quit. Otherwise, you're very possibly wasting your money and maybe some goodwill. I'd definitely suggest that you feel people out first. If someone expresses interest, by all means go for it.

I've given a few kits away to people who were interested in mine. Not as a birthday or Christmas present, but just to help someone I knew was interested find out if this was for them. There's nothing wrong with that...

Us (now ex-)smokers can get militant when someone butts in (pun intended) and tries to take away our preciouses... Just a thought...

I'm just glad I came back around to it, in due time, on my own...

Over the years I have given kits and juices to family and friends..along with the whole E-Cig rap. A couple wanted to quit and liked the kits..others tried and never used them.
In my opinion without the research and time learning we put into it and the desire to quit or lessen smoking..it's a tossup if they work for them. I think this forum is an important key in using E-Cigs. The support of peers is priceless!

When I have the money (been working on a contract basis here lately) I try to keep 3 or 4 of the disposable one's in the cargo pocket of my pants. That way if anyone starts asking questions, I can let them have one and let them try it right there and then head them here to read "The Wonderful World of Vaping" and start off in the beginners forum. Only problem with that is most of the time I never see them again, only a very few I've run across again, but they were still vaping.

I gave an eGo kit, a pack of Boge 2ohm cartos, and FSUSA Wyatt Earp to my brother as a gift. This was after he tried my set-up and liked it. 9 months later, he's still using the same set-up and juice and seems to have permanently cut down from 2 packs a day to 1/2 a pack. I think that is great. My bestie gave a set to her brother after she told him what I was using and he was interested. He quit smoking almost immediately, and still uses his eGo.

I think that the trick is they have to already be interested.

Yep, they have to be interested and ready. I started in October and my two adult sons who live with me were interested and they would pick mine up every once in a while. For Christmas, I gave them each 510 kits with pccs, cartos and juice. I filled their cartos whenever they asked. They used them for a while and were still using analogs too. Eventually they both went back to just analogs. I took back the equipment and passed it on to others who were interested and ready. They still know they can use my stuff whenever they want to but they are just not interested in quiting. For them, analogs are fiddle free. Maybe someday......
