I recently got a 510from kingpin cigs a week ago havent smoked since (well i tried but it tasted like crap so doubt i will be goin back ) now that i see that it is in fact a little miracle device i am diving head first (just what i do ) ive already tried several different juices from juicy vapes and kingpin the (kingpin banana being my fav ((crazy th)) close second is the french toast juicy vape) and I ordered the 3.7 mod box kit from madvapes along with a 14500 battery and a charger (the cheap 4.99 one since it seems to do every kind of battery) keep in mind i have little idea of what im doing i just love diy stuff. Im not a newbie to DIY projects but i am when it comes to soldering and electrical jargon ohms, mah, etc etc i have not bought a soldering iron and solder yet figured i would get more advice on what im going to need and the difficulty of task im about to venture on (may hand to my electricaly inclined buddy and say fix it if to much but would rather be all me) any help/advice would be awesome thanks!!

On a side note any idea if the boxes before pieced together can be dunked in water (and dried out of course before assembly) my brother got into hydro printing and is just aching to fancy up things and he has some really cool print I would love to apply on a mod box.

Sorry this is my first post and have loads of questions had to get a few out And if flaming is bad on these forums next post i will take my time and such with punctuations and all just lazy atm :p

I believe there is a forum at madvapes that has some tutorials on assembling the kits with pics if i remember correctly that may be of some help! I wanted to build some box mods myself but with kids around and my house a madhouse it just isn't doable at this time!
I just bought a 3.7 box mod 2 14500 Trustfire batts and charger for $30 bux shipped from one of our forum members! I like it alot with LR atties! Throat hit galore!
Good luck in your project!

Madvapes has some instruction on their website but here's the link MadVapes e-Cig 'How To' Tutorials • View topic - 2xAA 3.7 Volt Box Mod. They're pretty easy to assemble if you follow the instructions but since you bought the kit some of the steps have been done for you.

There should be no problem dunking the box in water before you put the thing together, it's just a plastic battery box. You might want to remove the switch before you do it though.

I bought a cheap soldering iron at Radio Shack for $7.99 and it came with solder, a pick, and a stand. It works great and has a pretty fine point which you'll need for soldering the wires to the 510 connector. Check those out as it's about the cheapest option and it works.

Be warned, once you try a 3.7 v mod you aren't going to be satisfied with anything less. You will probably want to buy at least one more 14500 batt though. What happens when the only one you've got is on the charger, or it dies completely? You always need spares of everything. I've got spare PV's, batt's, chargers, you name it I've got backups. I don't want to have to go buy smokes to tide me over until I can get parts in the mail.

As far as flaming, we have about the nicest bunch of people here on ECF so you're not likely to get flamed unless you try to start something.

yea i was goina buy a backup but the battery i wanted the "surfirebrand" was sold out (it got the best feedback) and didnt wana chance buying two ultrafires i figured if i succede at the mod box then most likely goina order all kinds of mod parts untill everything in my house has a ecig hookup and i can order the other brand then but then again i dunno if either of em are better than the other just the ultra one had a couple negative reviews also was goina try makin my own usb pass through but still trying to figure the cable dillema out so im sure a backup battery will be well on the way. and i am 120% satisfied with the performance of my 510 so im sure it will be a trusty backup. I have ordered from www.kingpincigs.com a couple times since and have been very pleased with there service (although im new and dont really have much to compare to other than juicy vapes so far) i just dont see kingpin mentioned much in the forums but they have free shipping over $20 and they match prices

When you get a soldering iron.....if you haven't soldered before...go to the hardware store and get some cheap wire. Cut it into pieces, strip the ends and practice soldering them together 'till you get smooth at it....I think you will do fine ! +1 on the lead free solder flame !

Welcome to ECF !!!!!!!

ahhh yes the need for back ups, from personal experience these are a must, i have a 5v box mod with 4 batts, this unit i have 5 diff attys for, i also just ordered a rough stack and 2 batts for it, since i had an ego i still have some lr attys but i went ahead and ordered more lr attys and even some lr 306s, but i have watched vids on diy mods and now i find myself standing at wal mart looking at stuff and being like wow i wonder if i can mod that hehe

Flashlights are relatively easy to mod. Look for aluminum tube ones that hold a single AA size batt. You can mod the bulb holder with a connector and use a single 14500 batt. If you want to replace the switch just get an intermitent one that fits the opening. Or, just look at the flashlights that Madvapes carries just for modding.

not sure how techy you are, but for many years I used those cheap crappy $15 pen style irons from RS. Finally I broke down and bought a cheapish soldering station and it was absolutely night and day difference. I am not an electrical guy at all but have done a few odd things over the years, and was blown away on how much easier every worked with even a cheap soldering station. Obviously if you never plan on soldering anything again, not worth it, but..:)

This is the one I got, it ran me about $50 when I bought it. It is discontinued, but the newer one is about the same price.
Xytronic 379 Temperature Controlled Soldering Station

(BTW-those cheapy $15 irons will do just fine on something like this)
