I agree, but when they didn't have enough information to go on...it makes sense why they made a rash decision. My manager friend agrees that it may not have been the best decision based on what he knows about
my vaping habit, but he did point out that since smoking has been banned there, the non-smoking patrons shouldn't have to be subjected to another haze when they don't understand what it is. Allowing vaping there just presented too many obstacles at the time in preserving a safe and comfortable dining experience for everyone. Looking back, I suppose if it was my restaurant and I saw how the rest of the customers were reacting to the presence of "smoke" I probably would have banned it as well. After all, protecting the interest of my bottom line would have been the top of my priorities. I just think if the guy had handled himself differently, it may have gone a different way. I know the manager wanted to let me vape and would have had that whole exchange gone more smoothly where other options could have presented themselves. Perhaps they will change the rules someday when the general populace has a better understanding of what vaping is.
PS, there are other dining venues here that do allow vaping in specific areas...not many, but a few. One of which is another national brand restaurant...I took the time to sit down with their manager and show them what it is and explain why I do it. They decided vaping would be allowed in the lounge, but not in the rest of the restaurant. That is where smoking was allowed before it was banned. Works for me.
