Sometimes a reinstall is the only way to fix problems, sounds like some trojan got hold of the system. Glad you got it sorted in the end.

Thanks bob, just need to get some sound on now  It worked fine till i did the re-install, now i have got nowt. There is an x at the side of the little speaker on my desktop, and when i hover over that it says no audio output device is installed. Getting a bit ticked off with it now. :(

In the end i had to re-install windows vista just to get rid of the infection.

Ok easy problem "windows vista", get rid of it and problem solved. One of the worst OS that Microsoft did, IMHO. Go with XP or windows 7, Again JMHO. I am a computer geek BTW, among other things.

Have you still got the drivers CD that came with the lappy, if not go to the makers site and see if you can download them, you will need the exact name of the laptop, then install the drivers for the sound card (sound, network and graphics are usually the ones that cause problems after a reinstall).

Agree with you on the Vista bit, but it is a waste of time changing to XP now that support has almost disappeared from MicroSnot, Win 7 definitely the best there is.

I was lucky enough not to have Vista - did have whatever it was before that though, then XP Pro. I really liked it! I like W7 Pro even better though :)

Inconsiderate neighbours had a party yesterday, we didn't go to bed until 01:00, by 02:00 I'd had enough and called the Council Noise Patrol, peace ensued at 03:35 and managed to get some sleep, as if the heat wasn't bad enough.
I really do hate that sort of thing. Pity they couldn't get it stopped before that 3.35! It's not unheard of for me to be still clearing up and going off to bed at that time, but I still wouldn't like it. I hate noise pollution other than every day life at the best of times.

I've worked here in this room overlooking the back garden for 21 years and it's been very good ..until 5 years ago when a lady and her newly retired husband moved into a bungalow who's garden partially carries across the back of ours. She registered as a child-minder and had license to have up to 8 children from babies to 9/10 year olds - it was torture.
It had always been really pleasant and quiet here with mostly just the sound of birds in the trees once the road became quieter after the morning rush hour. With these children, the youngest ones would be playing in the garden on and off all day, babies crying in prams, and then the older ones would finish school and they'd all start shouting and yelling in the garden often until 6pm when their parents collected them. Our summer afternoon coffee break in the garden became non-existent.
Unlike other people who only have small children for a relatively short time, these were a never ending supply of young children.

The past 18 months have been quiet most of the time: we found out recently that she had a knee operation and hasn't taken up her child minding again yet ...we're hoping she calls it a day!
It's not fair that local councils allow child minders in a residential area, even worse that they do not send out notices giving people the chance to object. When the previous occupants wanted an extension (that we couldn't even see as it's across our neighbours garden) we were given notice and the option to object.
Thankfully, we don't have anyone next door the other way (we're on a corner) and half the back garden has a rarely used public footpath behind it.

Agree with you on the Vista bit, but it is a waste of time changing to XP now that support has almost disappeared from MicroSnot, Win 7 definitely the best there is.
I had to be dragged from XP, but once I had the W7, and got used to it, I find it very intuitive to use, stable and (touch wood) trouble free.
This computer is 3.5 now, so perhaps in the coming year it'll either need an overhaul and upgrade or I'll have to think about a new one. Wouldn't hesitate to get the same make/model type though - but they'd have to have a copy of W7 for me too! :)

Well that was certainly very strange. I have been reading up and trying many different things like downloading drivers, un-installing and re-installing old drivers etc, and nothing would work.

Then i cleaned up c disc, and thought well i will just have to upgrade to windows 7, or maybe get a new laptop. Then a window popped up saying windows is installing device driver software ! so i just ignored it and carried on surfing for a new system.

I just happened to look down at the little speaker, and the red cross had dissapeared. I checked the setings and my sound is back on ???

Don`t even know what i did to sort it. Ah well.

 You`re probably right there mate. :D Hope you haven`t upset trish though Ian with your going into detail. :D

Night mate. :)

Nah mate Trisha knows what we're like on here ;)

SQUEEZE being the optimal word

Grasses should be treated the same way as Sausage Chips And BeanS :laugh:

Don't cross the picket line Bob

In the context of this conversation we might need clarification of what a 'lappy' is :p

I'll leave that to Terry ;)

In other news i got vapemail today :D

My monthly zamplebox arrived with the usual quantity of liquid (although they advertise as a minimum of 60ml I dont think i've had less than 85ml and as much as 105ml in each of my boxes). The good news is that even though i havent tried it from last month i got another 30ml bottle of peoples vape - kremlin (this is the pistachio ice cream, choc cookies & cream, etc juice). I also got one called Futterbinger which is based on an american candy bar made up of chocolate & peanut butter so sounds good at least!

My other vapemail was from alba vapours - another big boaby carto tank, some extra cartos and 2 tankfillas (for any of you that use carto tanks that dont have a top feed system these tankfillas are the best way to fill up your tanks. I've got a funnell from C9V and the extra long drip tip from IBTanked, but i find these from alba vapours the best - you get one thrown in with a carto tank, but i got an extra as i lost my old one :()

Tankfilla V2 (tankfilv2) by www.alba-vapours.co.uk

You seem to be doing pretty good with the Zamplebox orders mate. It's always nice when you get more juice than you expected, that's what I like about Nicoticket, the bottles are always topped up so you get more than you expected :D

Chefs vapour appears to be back up so placed an order on your recommendation. Went for the 5x10ml deal and chose RY-....., mint choc, abc, fluffy nuts and twisted. Looking forward to trying these.

The fluffy nuts is lovely, you'll like that one :)

What a bloody day i have had with this Lappy . Well and truely corrupted. I will give you an example: If i clicked on anything on ecf, i was getting a totally different page of ads popping up, not ecf related ads either, just a load of crap.

I tried everything within my limited knowledge of computers to fix it but whatever i did nothing worked. In the end i had to re-install windows vista just to get rid of the infection.

All seems to be okay now though :)

Bloody hell mate, you're not having much luck. Have you got a decent virus set-up on the lappy. If not, I'd recommend getting one, once you're all sorted mate.

Inconsiderate neighbours had a party yesterday, we didn't go to bed until 01:00, by 02:00 I'd had enough and called the Council Noise Patrol, peace ensued at 03:35 and managed to get some sleep, as if the heat wasn't bad enough.

My next door neighbour used to be as bad Bob, so I know what you went through. When we first moved in, it was a nice small cul-de-sac, surrounded by trees but still close enough to all the shops. The guy next door was a sales rep so he was always away, even when he was at home, he never made any noise. After 5 years he sold up to a woman with a young son. At the weekend, the lad would go to his Dad's, she would go out until 3am, then come home with all her mates and the fun would start. First time, I went round, gave her a mouth full and it stopped. The next weekend, same again. By the third weekend I was ready for her. The music started at 3am, so I opened up the box on the outer wall where the meters are and turned off her electric  Next day, we got the usual hung-over apology. So I told her, I'd been on to the council and that I was logging all the noise to lodge a formal complaint. The parties stopped straight away and she never did suss out about the electricity going off

Decided to have a play with twisted wire builds today.

Did a coupe of coils made up of 3 strands of twisted 31g kanthal. Was a real faff to get it on the fogger v4, but I managed to do it. Popped in some rayon. The build came out at 0.6 ohms, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. Bloody hell, it's a fog monster. Flavour is intense, but it's a really hot vape, so no massive lung hits. Overall I'm quite impressed though :D

Trish, before I get into the quotes etc, thought you might be interested in todays email from Paypal:

We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your

I was seriously thinking of chucking a brick over there, I'd already shouted out telling them to "Shut the Muck up", last year that worked. Our council has a noise patrol, but whether they actually do anything I don't know.

It's one thing that really does annoy me Bob. When people are inconsiderate and make loads of noise, it really gets to me. I've spent a lot of money buying this house (even though it's not paid off yet) and as far as I'm concerned, this is my castle. So when I come home, the least I expect is to be able to relax and sleep when I need to - I don't think that's too much to ask for. I'm like a bear with a sore head if someone wakes me up - just ask the Wife

To be honest, I could quite happily live in the middle of nowhere - no neighbours to wake me up - my idea of heaven :D

Oh good! My investigation details said they had until 21st to respond etc., and that's Monday (today now) - hopefully I'll get a favourable response too!
If I don't hear anything by Tuesday afternoon, I'll get in touch with Paypal.

Not sure they got it stopped, sounded like the party just stopped at that time, someone was supposed to have contacted me, but no one did.

Affluent hooligans or any other, it's just not the way to behave. Totally unreasonable and ignorant.
That child minder lady behind us was making a noise last summer from early evening - from what I could hear, she had a few female friends in the garden and they were obviously not drinking tea! Thankfully, in our house, it was only me that was disturbed as I worked - although our bedroom area goes from front to back, the actual bedroom part is at the front so it didn't disturb my husband. The noise went on until after 2am.
We found out the following week that our nice peaceful neighbours were all kept awake that night because most of their bedroom windows are at the back of the house and their two grown up sons and daughter's rooms are all at the back. I told them they should have called out and told her to be quiet ..they hadn't liked to. What a shame - that family have two newsagents and they're all up really early to work.
Thankfully, the thoughtless lady at the back doesn't have 'garden parties' often! ;)

I even hate hearing that awful thud thump in passing cars playing music at ridiculous volumes!

I started with Windows 3.1 (MSDOS before that) then most of the variants up to XP, which although I liked still wasn't up to the job, I beta tested Vista but never bought it as it was absolutely useless, but then they fixed all the bugs and brought it out as Win 7 which was absolutely fantastic, after that they decided we are all robots and in came Win 8, and we all know how that went, lead balloons an' all. Oh dear, that brings back memories of the first computer system I had to use at work - I was company buyer and had to use it for stock control, pricing and ordering, and there was no mouse ...just line after line of keyboard commands. I'd hate to have to go back to something like that!

It's one thing that really does annoy me Bob. When people are inconsiderate and make loads of noise, it really gets to me. I've spent a lot of money buying this house (even though it's not paid off yet) and as far as I'm concerned, this is my castle. I have been known to quote the first line from the poem 'No man is an island' ...but that I'd be willing to give it a try! (In other words, we don't survive alone). It's true, but is an apt thought when life's clamouring becomes too much.
Of course, the last line of that poem is the all sobering 'never send for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee' ...perhaps apt to quote to the noisy rabble to give them a cold hard slap of reality! ;)

We were going to move up to Oban after my husband retired. It's where my Dad's Mother and her family were from, and we always felt 'at home' when visiting there (I worked with a gallery up there for some years). The thing we realised though is that although we wouldn't want to be ill, should we need a hospital, it's 3 hours by road or rail to the bigger hospitals - whoever was not ill would have gruelling trips or none at all. Not a good idea! ...and it was the year after that we found the child minder in residence behind us!
Can't win sometimes! :)

Too much Bass, I hate that too, although I have done it myself, previous tenant above me used to turn her music up loud drowning out my TV, at the time I had good speakers on the computer, so used to angle them upwards, full power, full bass, and just a minute or two of one of my 2 Unlimited songs, they soon got the message and turned it down.

That was MSDOS, although Linux has a GUI not dissimilar from XP, it's not quite as easy to use

Dreadful that we sometimes need to reverse the 'do as you would be done by' ethic!

I knew nothing about computers then, but yes, MSDOS it was!
Who knew we'd come this far so relatively fast with computers!
First one I got at home, I wondered what on earth I would do with it!
