By the time I laughed at our youngest when he thought I'd retire when my husband did (and we'd help look after the grandsons!) I was firmly entrenched in this 'new me', so was able to tell him in no uncertain terms that painters don't retire in that sense, and likely just fall of their perch if they're lucky.
So to an extent no, I don't care too much what others think.
I don't like intimidating people, nor being in places I don't want to be, but mostly I can avoid both
