I just bought a 2002 Chevy Tracker. (It's nothing at all like what I was looking for, but it's a great little vehicle and cost far less than I was expecting to spend.)

Everything's great (so far), except it has those cursed Daytime Running Lights!

They are an exceptional pain!

I can't breeze through security check points (you have to turn off your headlights because they can affect some of the cameras). Instead, I have to wait for a manual inspection, which they hate doing and takes forever.

A group I belong to has a wildlife preserve that I like to visit. I thought this mini-SUV would be perfect because I had to stay on the gravel roads in my Buick, but this Tracker can handle the dirt roads. Some people use headlights to try to attract wildlife, so there's a no-headlights rule. You have to pay a $25 fee and post a $100 bond if you have DRLs!

I can't install HIDs because the low-current of the DRL circuit will burn them out.

I can go on about how they're a royal pain and completely useless (they might be great for motorcycles and sports cars, but this is an SUV -- if someone can't see me coming, dim headlights aren't going to help).

Anyway . . . rant over . . .

I found several sites which tell how to deactivate them in a lot of vehicles, but this year Tracker doesn't have a separate fuse, resistor, or relay for them.

There is a method listed on some sites for this year and model, but they all seem to copy the same source. The method is to cut two pins off of a relay. Despite how anxious I am to get rid of these stupid things, I'm not really ready to butcher a $179.95 relay on the advice of an anonymous Internet comment from five years ago.

Has anyone had one of these or know how to do it properly?
