I just noticed the pixels on my Pico screen are grey, dim, and uneven brightness compared to the identical screen on my Pico mega. I'm not sure how long the condition has existed but the mod has been in more or less continuous daily service for about 6 months. If the condition is stable I have no concerns but I have several in the stock pile and it would be a problem if this pattern holds with the others. So is the screen generic, is it attached by a connector to the board, and can be purchased after market? Replacing the screen would not be worth the bother unless government interfered with access to this product in the future but that's the point of having a stockpile and being able to repaiir something that can't be replaced. If the screen goes dark I'll try to repair even if that would cost more than a new mod just to see if it can be done.

Does anyone know more about the above than me?

Check basic elec connection? I use DeOxit for my elec conns, but even using a pencil and alcohol? Diff batt, diff cap?

I realize that you're an experienced vaper, but sometimes we vets overlook the basics. No offense intended.
Thanks for the tip. disassembly will be tried if the screen goes dark. Disassembly is demonstrated in a youtube video. I should be up to it. Right now the dim screen is only an annoyance. Pico is my preferred form factor. With arctic fox it does anything I might need. I've been preparing modestly for government interference and assuminng a pico or vtc mini should go 1-2 years full time use on average. It would be inconvenient to be wrong about that.

better to estimate on the low side (6 - 18 months? avg of 1yr?) and stock (way) more than you need for such a cheap device imo, especially with the nicopure lawsuit getting squashed last week. A few hundred extra bucks and you are set for life (and/or beyond) and if wrong about the avg life expectancy you aren't out much money vs what you would have spent smoking.

I would just clean the board with alcohol and a cotton bud, if that doesnt fix it I wouldnt bother as long as it works
The point is I've set aside some mods I'm not using just in case government interferes with supply for some years to come. If they actually manage to do that then we'll have to make due wiith what we have. I'm already aware that the oled screens might blink out after perhaps 10 years even sitting on the shelf unused. If useable replacement screens exist down the road because the part is generic that might be important. Now I'm starting to look in to that. This is not about what's most practical at the moment.

Crap electronics in most of these things altho I like Joyetech. My istick40 started to lose batt after 9mths.

My Joye egos with less electronics went flawless for 2.5yrs and still work.

I know you like your picos but if I was going to stockpile I'd probably be popping dna40 boards in small 3d printed mods myself.

u realize that 10yr thing that gets quoted so often for oled is an average right? they could be dead with no use a year from now or 19 years from now.

the safe way to go (if you don't do TC like me) is mechs. I have never used a mech but I got 4 nemmy clone tubes and 4 noisy crickets in the stash for if/when all my regulated tc mods die.

I do TC. I don't do mechs. I wouldn't use a cordless power tool or phone without basic battery protections. Why would it be different with vaping? I have a hunch that the screen is a generic part, available after market. May be joytech will tell me or may be I'll find out when it's time too disassemble a Pico.
