Hey there,

I've been interested in twisting 28 gauge Kanthal because I hear the flavor is amazing. For those of you who do enjoy using twisted wire, can you please confirm this? I actually don't see a whole lot about it in the forum, especially recent threads.
Also, I saw a couple of vids for the zipper coil, in which, after twisting, you use pliers to flatten the edges, so that the edges of the wires are more flush. Has anyone done this for non-zipper coil builds? Does it affect flavor? Positively or negatively?

In case anyone's interested, I'd be either using it in my Tugboat or Plume Veil on a mech with safe batteries (Sony VTC4) or a sigelei 100w. I also have an ohm meter.

Thanks!

I only ran this coil for a couple days but it was decent flavor:

3 strands of 28ga on a veritas.

I never tested with flattened edges. I ran 32ga triple twisted on my kayfuns for months, great taste. With your setup you probably have plenty of power to push triple 28.

Here's a link with some cool looking twisted and zipper coils for reference: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coil-builds/617434-coil-art.html

Twisted 32ga here. I don't flatten em cause the ends just get snipped off after I screw it down anyways.. And yep the flavor and vapor is AWESOME compared to a regular micro coil.. Cuts your resistance in half too so I can finally do 8 wraps with my 32ga wire and it only hits 1.5.. Would be close to 3 with a single strand..

I've twisted from 32 down to 22. Loose wraps, tight wraps, 2 strands, 3, 4 even.

My current build is 4 strand 30ga, 7 wraps around 1/8 clocking in at 0.39ohm. Running it in my Cigreen X with only 3 air holes exposed on my homemade Raptor 20A box at around 4.5-5.2V and it kicks some serious warm flavor. It just replaced the 2 strand loose twisted 26 that i was running.

I have found it is too time consuming to flatten it after twisting it, then again, I'm VERY impatient and rebuild often on multiple devices/atomizers for different "needs" for that time. The one time I flattened it, it just happened to look prettier.

Yes and no. Yes I twist, no I don't flatten. I am pretty new here, as a member but lurked for almost a year. I think I get better flavor on a twisted coil. For me it seems the slower ramp up time( I usually tighten up the air flow ) Brings out more notes of my juices that I never tasted before. Right now I have a Magma, Atomic, and TOBH.....still love the Magma..... And have been playing with 32 and 28 gage. Todays vape mail will have 24 and 26 gage, so back to the vaping table to learn something new. Enjoy!
