Im looking for alternatives to cotton wicks. Would be nice not to have to re-wick so often. A friend of mine who I got turned on to
vaping told me about clay wicks? Is this a viable option for vertical build like say in a Origen RDA? I love my Origens they kick the crap out of most others imo, but they are a pain to rewick.
I've tried 'PC' (porous ceramic) rod in RDAs with modest success... but the flavor is somewhat dulled vs. other wicking materials.
Porous ceramics are made of clay, quartz and monoxide... sintered at around 1200° C, so unless you're talking about something entirely different, I suppose one could refer to them as 'clay'.
I've heard the term "quartz rod wick" as well, but "porous ceramic rod" seems to be the most often used term... and perhaps provides the best return in a search engine.
I prefer cotton, rayon, braided ceramic (READYx or Nextel) or hemp fiber for RDAs. I have no trouble re-wicking verticals with cotton... but most of my coils have an -
easy to re-wick - ID of 2~3mm, depending on desired resistance.
