Hi all,

At the beginning of the year, I was curious about Alien Visions with their Boba's Bounty and Gorilla juice. Loved the GJ so much I bought a large bottle.

Not long after that, I started experiencing acne on my face, mainly on the apples of my cheeks.

I didn't even think it had anything to do with the all of a sudden high VG I was vaping. With the exception of some AiV liquids I was using (since I don't know their ratios) I was vaping mainly 80% PG 20% VG.

Since I chalked the issue up to just a hormonal or acute event, I decided I like high VG due to smoother hits and lots of clouds, and started ordering more juices with higher VG content. Usually a 50/50 blend.

My love for GJ made me start chasing other banana juices. I love Bananas Gone Nuts and Banana Cream Pie from MBV as well now.

My acne is still happening, even after reducing my VG intake. And I'm so sad because I miss my GJ. But perhaps it's a totally unrelated incident. Also, perhaps there is something about banana flavoring that my skin doesn't like? I'm perplexed!

Additionally, I have been analog free for just over 6 months. My acne did not show up until about 4 months after quitting. Is it possible I have the dreaded "quit zits" that many folks get after giving up cigs? Most of the threads and website I've read said they got "quit zits" withing just a couple weeks of quitting. If that is what I have, mine took over 4 months to show up.

I guess I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else has experienced anything similar. And if so, how long does this last? Does it go away? It's making me kind of depressed. I had such a nice complexion with no history of acne, save for a small bout of it as an adolescent, which is normal in many cases. It was nothing like I'm experiencing now.

Can you get "quit zits" after that many months of quitting cigs? Has anyone else dealt with VG induced acne? Mine has gotten marginally better (I think, or is it all in my head?) after laying off the VG some but still there, still noticeable, and still bothersome. I feel like I'm going crazy!

Looking forward to responses....I would have posted this in the health and wellness section but I notice it does not get a lot of traffic.

Thanks guys!

I vape a lot of 50/50 pg/vg juice and have not had that acne problem. I have also read that quitting smoking can bring on a bout of acne. Another thing to check for is if you have changed your diet with stopping smoking. Many people seem to snack more now that they are not smoking. That could be a factor to consider.

The only problem I have with 100% vg (or with vg over 50%) is that I get a heaviness in my chest and lungs from the vg. Because of that I vape no more than 50/50 and preferably 70/30.

Omg!!! I'm in the same boat, but I do 70/30 pg/vg. I didn't even realize this was a thing. It's been really frustrating, and I never equated it with quitting. Maybe it's not, but geez...

When did your issue start? Mine started about 4 months after quitting analogs. That is what has confused me so much.

Seems that analogs suppress hormones, so when we quit, our bodies go into hormone overdrive. At least you're not a farter. =)

Haha, thanks. Yes, my lower gastro intestinal functions seem to be quite normal. I just hate my face right now. I would like to know more about how analogs suppress hormones. I wonder if mine will regulate after more time or if I am doomed to suffer this issue forever. I know, I know...go see a doctor. :)

The problem with this problem is you have a pile of complex & overlapping things that happened, of which any of them could be causing the problem.

When it comes to facial acne, I know two people that connected the dots between PG and their problem. And it took them more than a year to make that connection. When they switched to high VG liquids the acne resolved in... about a week. Since the acne for them only appeared in "the vaper's triangle" - bridge of the nose, across the cheeks, to the base of the chin - it seems that a direct exposure to what was in their vapor was creating the problem.

But unless you people are twirling around with your top off while you vape that wouldn't seem to explain the acne problems people have on their neck and back.

It is known that smoking suppresses the endocrine system. When you take the lid off and quit smoking all sorts of endocrine related problems that were formerly hidden can pop out of the woodwork. That could be acne - you just put yourself through puberty all over again and hormonally things are now a bit off again.

All you can do is an elimination test: Get a couple of unflavored liquids in your usual nic level, one in 100 PG the other in 100 VG, vape em up separately and see what you get. I suggest unflavored because you don't need to add another layer of complexity regarding a reaction to flavorings. Unflavored isn't that much of a shocker - a lot of us vape unflavored and it's actually pleasant. Places like Mt. Baker and The Vapor Room sell unflavored as a flavor option (lol) on their sites.

lf it is an adverse or allergic reaction to either PG or VG you should be able to find the source of the problem with this elimination test. However, if the acne doesn't go away or improve significantly it seems a visit to your MD is in order to ask questions about what the other possibilities are.

About 4 months for me too, and it's a different kind of acne. It hurts =(. I'm going to try a few things and get my hormone levels tested. Subscribed.

I am allergic to VG.
I haven't experienced acne.
But I swelled like a blow fish, my throat swelled and so did my legs, hands and feet.
My chest was tight and my joints ached.

My doctor did some allergy tests on my arm and it came back positive for the VG.
This all happened about 2 months ago.
I have been vaping for a year and 3 months.

I asked my dr. Why did it develop so late.
He says that's common with allergies. Your bodies immune system will fight it but after a while it can't keep up :(
I also got sores in my hair. Like zits but they hurt real bad line they were on fire.

You definetly need to do the elimination test or see your dr for an allergy test.
I can know do 70pg/30vg but no more.
