A literal translation doesn't work... it's a saying or proverb I believe...

My interpretation, from my own experience, is that "love" is to be with a loved one at their time of death.
I actually have deep regrets around that. I looked (mentally ran) away. It's a good reminder to others.
I may be wrong in my interpretation but I like it just the same.

I studied french for 8 years... and I can translate or use translators etc...
he's not a metal fan or into dexter... but a bit of a romantic -

I'm not francophone but I've been dating one for 11 years.
My first interpretation was *Love looks like someone dying* or *Love watches someone who dies*
strange... I'll ask my BF when he gets home later if it's a proverb he's heard of.
Did you ask your friend who got the tatoo?

I live in francophone area and that saying doesn't ring a bell at all , I even asked some of my friends from Paris and Marseille.... doesn't talk to them either ...

I think only your friend can enlighten you as this is not typical French-Canadian nor a France-French one.
