I have zero issue with the ads behind the counter. but NOT next to hostess cupcakes and 5 hour energy shots nor over behind or near game adverts.IF it was solotary np but it is in rite aide and other places.I did talk to a friend who runs the shop in question and he told me the reps are pressuring to put them out front. As much as I loathe the fda/bt/ags interference I do think it is about time to have a state ag step in and slap some hands. I am sure there are other oregonians in this thread in and around portland who can back up the orb ad placements as being out of line.So stating IF you use them more power in an alternate form than cigs but please be aware that rjr and suppliers are are not advertising fair in some markets. Will attempt a recon of shots on the 2nd.

On the hiccups issue, I have my own personal theory.

I've noticed that lower pH smokeless tobacco products (Camel, Stonewall, Discreet, etc) irritate my throat, upset my stomach and give me hiccups more frequently. Why? Weeellll...

pH determines how much of the nicotine is readily absorbed by the oral mucosa (gums, inside of your cheek, etc). Higher pH = better, faster, more complete absorption. Lower pH = more nicotine goes unabsorbed in your saliva and winds up getting swallowed.

So you wind up swallowing MORE nicotine with a relatively low-nic product like Camel snus or Stonewall (low pH) than you do with a high nicotine/high pH product like Oden's ES.

It is shocking how much a very small change in pH can affect the amount of absorbable nicotine. It's like 85% absorbable at 8.5 pH and 50% at 8.0 pH...

Isande, your theory might be a good one, but I was told that the PH of your saliva so overrirdes the object in the mouth as to make the object almost meaningless. To think that a Stonewall significantly changes the PH of what I swallow is a stretch. By the time the tobacco mixes with saliva and gets swallowed, the PH of the content is nearly that of the saliva in the first place.

Please point me to evidence that says the opposite.

The importance of object PH in the mouth is related to absorption, which is why pipe tobacco smoke is absorbed well by the mouth while cigarette smoke does well in the lungs. Tobacco products have their PH manipulated, precisely in relation to where absorption will take place.

Again, if I'm wrong, correct me. I'm really very curious about this, since I've never experienced hiccups or gastrointestinal distress from dissolvables or snus.
