I just ordered some from there on Thursday and it will be here sometime on Monday. After making the switch to vaping on Feb.17th and having no desire to ever touch a stinky again, I thought it was time for me to try my hand at making my own coils. Couldn't beat the price.
Question, I read something about the kanthal being coated in something that could give an offputting flavor. Is this the case with all kanthal, or just a fluke thing someone had?
it can have ammounts of oil from the machining process. Heat your kanthall to red either with a torch before coiling it or on your mod by dry burning it before wicking your coil. That should remove any traces.
Amazon and eBay are great places to stock up on Kanthal. The only other place that has it insanely cheap is LightingVapes. I got 2 spools for I think 11$ shipped. One was 50ft and the other was 100ft of 24 and 26 gauge. Some other vendors charge way, way too much. This one b&m near me sells little packs of different gauges in 5 foot lengths for around 6 bucks. Thats ridiculous to me.
Thanks again everyone. I'll pick some up. I have some credits on my amazon account, but it gets shipped directly from TEMPco so no biggie. I'll keep it in mind for the future though that Tempco sells directly from their site.
How long should the Kanthal get torched to remove the machining oil?
