I desperately need very sweet bakery type juices, because of all the stress i've been going through the past few month's. I'm back on analogs half the time and vaping the other half :( I won a V tube awhile back and it has started shorting out, but I still love it. Can someone please tell me where to get some wick that isn't silica, because all I have to do is look at silica, and it starts tearing apart :(

Hello Hearts,

Some people use Cotton and Bamboo for a wick, instead of Silica. On the recommendations in http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/378875-just-hemp.html#post8576644 and http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...erials-safe-vs-dangerous-463.html#post5717639 (a discussion of Silica Alternatives), I bought some Natural While (not colored) Peaches and Creme Cotton Twine from Wal-Mart, because it was readily available, and very Cheap. I don't have any Kanthal yet, so I haven't been able to try it yet, but Cotton is about the best wick you can get for capillary action. It has/adds a Pillowy Taste, but it doesn't last as long as Silica, and you really don't want to let it get Dry, so it's best in a Clear Tank Tube. As long as you get a 100% Cotton Material (no additives, and especially not from a Pharmacy Area), things like Cotton Gauze and Cheesecloth also work very well. The Peaches and Creme is already in a Twine, so I bought that to try when I can.

If you'd like to try Bamboo, there are links to Vendors in the Hemp thread. Both of these links go to Post #1, so to find the most recent Vendors, look more toward the last posts. Bamboo is very resilient, but you sometimes have to break it in to get past an initial Bad Taste. A real good Boiling helps a lot.

Cotton will swell a lot as it absords your Juice, so you need a loose coil around the Dry Cotton when you Wrap it. Therefore, you might want to see this... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...g-oval-coil-1mm-hemp-wick-11.html#post8084383 (Post #1 also). Since more Kanthal is used here, BJ used 28 AWG Kanthal in the thread at first, because the lower Ωs of this Kanthal wire means more wire for the same resistance Coil. He doesn't use 28g any more, but now uses 30g, because, he says, it's easier to work with. An added benefit here is discussed in http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...t-matter-its-all-about-wire-temp-read-12.html 32g heats up very fast, so the 30g makes for a Cooler Vape, and less Burnt taste. 30g and 28g are better for any Coil.

BJ43 started Hemp and Oval Coil, and is/was very active in Save vs Dangerous. He's a Wizard, and is Huge into Safety.

If you decide to try a Natural Fiber, just boil it for 20 minutes, 3 times each, using clean Distilled Water each time. This is all covered in Safe vs Dangerous, but it's a Crazy Long thread. The other two aren't nearly as long.

The above comments are just my Summaries of the mentioned threads.

Maybe Cotton will work for you. This Peaches and Creme is what I'm going to try first. :)
