The only way I can Chill in this heat is by keeping my bunns inside with the Chillerator set to 76o. But I have been BIZZ(E). Makes me wanna get BUZZ(E). Wanna meet me for a few Margaritas and some Mexican Food?

I work out of my Home, so Every day is kinda like the Weekend. LOL I do computer repair, and I just got rid of finished with a Nightmare computer. Was able to get it back in Perfect Condition, without having to Format. Have another one I'm werken on now. It's a New Laptop, and the owner doesn't like Win8, so I'm putting on Win7. Checked first to make sure there were Win7 Drivers for it. There are, so I'll be getting started after I can get a Full Backup of it as it sits now.

The old BIOS System is passé now, having been replaced by UEFI. IDK if UEFI came before Win8, or if it was Created for it, but Win8 is using UEFI on this Toshiba. This makes a few things quite Different... a new Learning Curve for me. To get into the BIOS Settings, at least on this Toshiba, you can only do it from Power Off... no longer a Restart. You press and hold F2, and then Power it On, while continuing to hold F2. What's worse is that the "F" Keys are now Accessed differently, meaning you also have to press and hold the "F" Key with a Square around it, as F1, F2 are now accessed as Function Keys, along with their normal "Functions." Once you finally figure out how to get Into the new #$%+&*! BIOS (UEFI), you can change things, including putting the "F" Keys back to the way you're used to them werken, but they work Better if you leave them alone.

It's always sump'em... If it ain't One thing, it's THREE!!! It's been one of those days for the past week and a half!!!

:-x Dont get me started on Toshibas! So much proprietary crap! Thank god for google huh. Did you figure it out yet? I love your job!!! I'd love that job! I have that job (for my friends and family) but I dont get paid! LOL I build them PC's too.

2 years ago I got hit by a new insidious version of the old VIRUT/win32 virus, and it took me 3 months to kill it. NO JOKE. It's a virus that gets into the kernel of the hard drive and replicates onto any html and .exe file that the head of the hard disk looks at! Everyone online said the hard disk MUST be formated in order to kill it. No help anywhere, but I fixed it! :D Took 3 months. Used many virtual PC virus checkers and lost a ton of .exe's. BUT I WON!:laugh: I'm really proud about that feat of perseverance.
I had too much invested (music production) on that hard disk.

Hey VG, how do you attract business for your biz?

PS: Oh, and that funny vid you posted! I love that video too!!! It's one of only five that I have shared in my public favorites folder on youtube! Small world. ??? :D

Howdy my other Apollo peeps. Hope all is well!

Hey Aflo,

I'm glad you WON. :)

I used to build computers, but I don't anymore. I have something of a partnership with Dell now. I help people pick the Dell for their budget, and send that to a salesman who gets them the best deal. I don't get anything from That, but they usually have the new PC shipped to me, where I copy everything from the Old one and put it on the New one. That's where I get paid, so it works for both of us.

AFAIC, Toshiba Bytes the Big One over all that Proprietary stuff. They make pretty good computers, but I'd never buy one for myself. Yes, I figured it all out, but now that customer wants to stay with Win8. I would have had to learn it sooner or later, so it's all good. Google to the Rescue!!! I really need to get Win8 running on something of my own, so I'll be ready for it when they start rolling for Repairs.

When it comes to those kinds of Virus and Spyware infections, I don't try to Beat them anymore; at least, no Heroics. I mount the hard drive in a dedicated computer and run scans to clean it up as much as possible. Sometimes, it can be put back in the original computer, but most often, there's been too much damage done to the OS and/or installed programs to try to recover from. I find it more expedient to simply mount that hard drive back into My computer, and save All Data onto My computer, and then Format and Rebuild that hard drive in the original. Customers tend to lose their sense of humor when a repair takes too long, so I only give Repair efforts about a day or two; then I Rebuild. Plus, this way, it's like Factory Day-One Brand New again... as Fast as it's ever going to be. I did those kinds of "Heroics" for myself recently, but that PC really needs to be Rebuilt. However, WinXP is on the way out, so I never bothered. It is just a Backup now.

And Yes, Family generally gets a Free Ride. Though some of them actually do pay me, and I will accept it when they offer.

To get the word out, I talk with people and pass out Business Cards, and I'm listed online in Phone Book sites. I also get a Lot of referrals from my generally very satisfied customers. I've been amazed by both the number of referrals, and people who have kept a Business Card for Years, and remembered me to call upon again years later when they needed help again. I'm about 50/50 Residential and Business.
