try and get your credit record expunged. it reverses the negative trade-lines into positive ones and can give your credit score a boost :)
i was not able to do this however and consolidated

You talkin' to me? (sorry, couldn't resist!) I've been paying on the loans and have been in good standing for well over 7 years at this point, so I'm not worried about the credit hit that might remain. You forget, I'm old!

im the bearded poppa :)

akatina, must not be that old to leave a bruisin on the derby girls!
awesome you are getting it paid off, im signing on to a 25 year IBR repayment.
oh and thank you for this, been laughing at this one: » Disneyland Photoshop Troll

You'd be surprised. We have multiple skaters that are in their early 40s, and I teach someone in rec league who's in her 50s!

I know the payoff window sounds huge, but it's really not. The interest rates on student loans are typically the lowest you'll have of any debt. You can pay the minimums but easily throw extra towards it when times are good. And to be fair, part of the fact that I'm almost paid off is due to not having a metric crapton of loan debt to start with thanks to a scholarship. Couldn't have gone to college at all without it...

not gonna lie. my motivation to get the loan in good standing was i wanted to receive my taxes this year. they have been offset for 3-4 years, but this year i expect to get a lot more back, and screw involuntary payments. serious
year low interest. i locked mine in years ago at 2.69
but i see up to 8.25 quite often now in others

I'll probably have to take out loans for graduate school but i should be able to get financial aid to cover most everything until then.
