I don't know if it means anything to you, but the Versa has a 2.5 amp limit, the Provari a 3.5 amp limit. The Versa is recommended to not use ultra-low resistance cartomizers.

Provari has Acu-set technology, giving you the same voltage you set for the life of the battery, so your last vape will be as good as the first. Proven durability, consistancy, and customer suport post warranty.

What is considered ultra-low resistance? I believe the lowest I have are my 1.5 DCTs, but I've traded those for vivi novas (lowest are 1.8ohms, I believe, I generally use the 2.4ohm heads though as the 1.8 are too hot on my eGo).

Given that you would prefer the cost be about $150 with charger and battery, you may want to check out the Zmax stainless at madvapes.
It's going for $130 without charger and battery but around $150. It's about ~ 4.7 inches long has extra vents along the side for safety. It uses one 18650 battery. The waranty is for 90 days though. One can select variable volts or variable watt (software selectable). It is a relatively new APV (out about a month) so can't say how long it will last. I own the chrome version of the Zmax (1 month now) and it works just fine. It will have no problem driving the cartomizers and/or atomizers of 2 ohms and above. I normally use it in variable power mode anywhere from 6 to 9 watts depending on the liquid and type of atomizer I put on it (with rebuildable atomizers on it I'm typically in the 8 watt range when vaping).

There's no hard rule but, generally, LR is below 2.5ohms. SR is 2.6-3.5 ohms and HR is > 3.5ohms. It varies with the manufacturers tolerances.

1.5 ohm DCT's are really two 3ohm coils wired in parallel. That's why they suck at voltages below about 4.5V. With a 3.7V eGo, you're vaping with two coils burning at 4.56 Watts each. ( Watts = volts x volts / ohms ). In effect, you're vaping with two 3ohm cartos at the same time. The 1.8ohm Vivi will always feel hotter than a 1.5ohm DC carto. Because it is.

The best thing to do with any of the first generation Lavatube-type APVs with a 2.5A current limit is to stick to about 2.8-3.2 ohms. That way, you'll get the full range of voltages without exceeding the current limit. Never use a dual coil carto on a 2.5A APV.

So far you've gotten some great suggestions. There's a new mod called a Stallion from Texas Select Vapor. It's based on Evolv's DNA 12 and runs on a gigantic IMR 22650. It's a hefty mod but operates like a Darwin with variable wattage (5-12 watts). Another option is the Kick module. I just got one for my Precise 18500 and it's impressive. It doesn't like dual coils but neither do I anymore. Once you set it, your good to go. You can use one in several other mods the accept an 18650.....Silver Bullet, Maxi RoughStack, Bolt, ETC.... Sounds like you're pretty knowledgeable....good luck!
