Still waiting on starter kit, but through reading I know that we are going to need more juice, batteries, cartomizers, etc as backups almost immediately. My question is, you order from a site and they warn you about using gear/juices from another site YET they state that their parts/juices are compatible with any other gear with the same model number. Now, I know they want you to be "brand faithful," but with the information I am gathering about other sites and the better deals I am finding I just want to make sure that I won't be ordering something that won't really work universally. Can someone help? THANKS!!

510 parts are interchangeable with most 510 threaded devices, within limits

The fat battery 510 threaded models (Ego, Riva 510, mods) - i.e. models with 400mah+ batteries, can use almost any atomizer or cartomizer that is 510 threaded. They should use their own fast chargers.

The slim 510 models can use all standard resistance 510 atomizers and standard resistance cartomizers but cannot use any of the hotter low resistance (LR) ones

The slim 510 models cannot use the fast charger of an Ego or Riva 510

The evil reverse polarity 510 threaded items - 2 I know of are Blu and FS510 - those cannot use the chargers of normal 510's like Joye 510 and normal 510 cannot use their chargers (will fry the battery).

BUT - if you are asking is 510 stuff in interchangeable with totally different ecig models like DSE801 or DSE901 or KR808D-1 - no, not without an adapter. The only other-number model I know of that has atomizers/cartomizers that will screw right on 510 (slim or fat) is Joye 306. And re adapters - even with an adapter, ecigs are not equivalent because different models sometimes have different voltage batteries. KR808D-1 has higher voltage batteries than 510 so a KR808D-1 will get more heat out of its own cartomizers than a 510 with a 510 to 808 adapter.

Don't sweat it. 510 is the most popular threading by far. Eventually you will probably own other models too. I carry both manual joye 510's and manual KR808D-1 (like Vapor4Life.com, Smokeless Image Volt).

Oh and what bs site is warning people not to use 510 stuff and juices from other sites. I will never send anyone to them.

I agree that people with 510's need to stay away from low resistance 510 attys/cartos, away from the fast chargers of the fat battery 510 models, and away from any charging item or batteries of the evil reverse polarity clones. Hopefully your vendor is not selling one of the reverse polarity clones. If they called it Joye 510 then it is pretty safe that is is really Joye and not any kind of clone. There are good clones too but I usually recommend people buy Joye to make absolutely sure they are fully compatible with all normal slim 510 parts.

Dormouse, I have looked at so many sites in the past 36 hours that I honestly cannot tell you which site I read the warning on. I didn't order from them, though. Seemed kind of hypocritical to warn against only using their parts and juices but then selling replacement parts that would work with "any" 510.

I ordered our original starter kits from Aquavapor. Today, I ordered extra juices from Vapor4Life. I also ordered another starter kit of Joye 510s from LiteCig. Hopefully this will give us a good start and a little variety to play around with. I popped on $100 in two days, but buying the equivalent in cartons of analogs would have cost us almost $20 more than that, so I don't regret it a bit.

Thanks so much for all of the helpful information. Thanks to this forum I understand more and more as I read and ask questions.

Welcome indeed... I used to spend summers in tending bar in Atlantic Beach. Hate that I don't get down there as much as I used to...

Looks like your question has been thoroughly answered... Something to keep in mind though: If a site tells you that you can't use other parts/accessories with their equipment, they're not going to be the most reputable company, and are likely charging a premium and trying to keep you coming back. Definitely look around and you'll find some great, reputable, inexpensive suppliers... several really good ones here in NC.

You can try purchasing another entire starter kit, sometimes it's cheaper that way.

Sometimes the cheapest way to get a charger, since your gonna need those extra batteries and atomizers anyway.
You don't want to be stuck with only 1 cahrger.

I could be expensive if all you want are cartos/carts. :)

Oh, and be careful of "Equivalent to X packs of cigarette" claims. These are, at best, usually exaggerated, and at worst, flat out lies. It's really kind of impossible to look at it that way...

Various equipment setups burn juice at different rates. Further, you can't really look at it the same way. You can't say, "I smoked a pack a day, so that's 20 smokes at 5 minutes each, so I need X amount of juice." You will likely not vape the same amount of time and in the same way you smoked. Your body metabolizes this in a different way, so it's not really a comparison situation. It's difficult not to think of it that way, but it really doesn't work out like that.

In my case, I spent a good bit of money up front looking for the perfect equipment that didn't leak, offered good flavor and good vapor production. Once I found my hardware, I was all set. I mix my own juices for pennies/mL, and it's a very low cost endeavor. It may cost a bit to find a setup that you like and you can deal with...

Find something you can use to stop smoking (if that's your goal), and then worry about saving money... In the long run, you'll save bundles, and you'll be so much healthier. I hate to see people give up and go back to analogs because they don't find the right equipment for themselves... I did it myself three years ago. Very happy/fortunate to have found this group that helped me get back on board and find exactly what I needed.

Thanks, Wil. I feel really lucky to have found this forum, too. I really appreciate all of the advice and support that I have been getting and everything that folks are saying is a big help. I think that if I had not found this forum and my husband and I had simply gone electronic without all of the information available here, our success rate would have been much lower. I was reading one poster who thought about giving up after nine months because they had spent $700 and still not found the right fit. My husband and I currently spend $300+ a month on analogs and are perfectly willing to put that much into this endeavor.

My husband is kind of leaving it up to me to do the research on this. He was as surprised as I was that there is so much information to process. I was kind of bummed at first that he didn't want to get on ECF and read what I was finding out, BUT it has become a great topic of conversation for us. He doesn't have the patience to sit for hours and read about it but he does like to ask me about it and talk to me about it. We would both like for this to be a fun hobby that we could do together instead of just being a slave to our analogs.

Off the subject, I read that you used to tend bar in Atlantic Beach. Where was that? Isn't it a small world? Thanks again for the info and support. Have a great day!
