'ello all,

This is probably fit for the new members section, but I like the Canada sub-forum and options for suppliers in Canada are always nice.

I've been debating this for a while .. my original plan months ago was to get some dcts, then eventually a nice phiniac tank and the Siam Mod punch and go the carto tank route with boges. Since boges tanked and smoktechs aren't doing great either, I avoided them for a while. I did buy the Siam Mod punch from cloudsofvapour ( which is great ) and a cheapo dct tube, but I've only used it with a cleaned out LR boge - the only ss 45 mm I had laying around. But mostly I've been using the Vivi Mini - which annoys me a bit with the tipping and center pole problem and the Kanger T2, which is great, but requires tipping and gurgles/leaks like crazy every once in a while, plus has mediocre build quality.

I ordered another Vivi Mini, heads, T2 heads and now I'm wondering, should I buy a couple more DCT tanks and the Boge F16 to try out. According to pbusardo and vaporchase boges quality has gone up, but is still below what it used to be.

So it worth dropping a little more money on some DCTs and new cartos to test ? What's your opinion on carto tanks verse the newest clearomizers ?

Hello my friend,

I've been very satisfied with my tank/Boge carto set up lately. I think I managed to get a good batch of Boge because the cartos are lasting quite a few days and taste great. It's become so easy to just punch, fill tank and go. No issues with the tanks at all, you draw, they draw. No tipping, no gurgling, no juice in the mouth. Taste is great. The Siam carto puncher makes the perfect hole, even for VG juices.

I love the tank because I don't have to worry about over/underfilling the carto, which is probably why they're lasting longer for me. Or maybe I just really lucked out with the Boge, but I have to say, by the time you guys are finished buying all the latest and greatest clearomizers, trying out news ones, throwing out broken/cracked ones, fiddling with threads, filling with needles, buying the next versions, I've invested my money in a good Pyrex tank. Initially it costs more than a clearomizer but I think in the long run it pays off more.

:2c: :)

Thanks for the input guys.

I was definitely turned off paying $50 for a pyrex tank, but I'm not a fan of plastic, especially with the amount of time liquid is going to be sitting in there - eventually I want my juice bottles to be in glass as well.

With Stardusts, Kangers, Vivis and some plastic DCTs, I've spent well over $50, but not in one pop on one device and I'm still glad I tried all of those devices. Even if I had a nice glass tank, I would still probably use clearomizers certain times, if you use or break a twist and clearomizer - it's only $30-40 or so. I'm also determined (or trying) to not spend more on vaping, than smoking in a month.

I had good luck with boges from surevapes, except for 6 out of .. tons of them. I think canvape got a huge shipment before the bad lot, since every other vendor seems to have gotten some. The problem now is that I'm using a washed out (probably never doing that again) LR boge, with a liquid I don't really like, so a direct comparison is impossible. I only have the cheapo DCT with the plastic ends. I feel kind of dumb wasting $3-6 on a few more DCTs with chrome ends and the F16, but I'd like to try them out.

The way carto tanks feed is definitely better than clearomizers, in my opinion, but how is the throat hit/vapour and taste in comparison ? Has anyone used the same liquid in both set ups ?

It will all boil down to taste...
Im not a fan of cartos, so i've used a CE2 in a MAP tank setup.... but that was many moons ago. The vivi nova is the newest iteration of this

I do have carto tanks as a on-the-go backup for my current mods, but i would rather buy a new mod than spend $50+ for a tank that slides over a $2 carto.... Unless those custom decorated tanks are your thing. That's in a different category.

Bogegate led me to try Genesis setups and I can tell you that I couldn't go back to carto's anymore. I loved them for well over a year and could never taste the filler until I tried a DID. More taste - less filler! It is an extremely fiddly way to vape so if you are looking for ease of setup, no leaking and consistent vaping, stick with a carto tank. Don't even try a Genesis device as it will spoil you.

The carto tanks are my staple....cheap, easy, and effective.

I have a few genesis style rebuildables including a DID, but they ultimately end up sitting on my desk since I find them too heavy to carry around.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the Vivi Nova 2.5, but I find the draw to be a little on the stiff side.

Oddly enough, my cheapest equipment is my go-to vaping gear. Boge SR carto + Smoktek tank + Mini LT + Dekang 12mg RY4 @ 4.5 volts = WIN for me. :)

In my experience, ST dual-coil cartos in a standard 6ml tank is my vape of choice. Easy to clean and fill, holds lots of juice, great vapour. I've tried clearos and the vivi and it just doesn't do it for me.

Provari @ 5.3-5.5V + 2.5ohm dual-coil flanged carto + 6ml DCT tank (or my Phiniac) = no-nonsense vapetastic glory. I generally have 7 filled tanks with me any any given time for variety.

I will occasionally use a Boge 3.0ohm or a ST Single-coil 2.8ohm, but that's generally when I'm running low on DC's.... The Boge's are good, but are tight and don't wick as well in a tank....I usually have to haul pretty hard to suck juice into them when they're getting dry. The ST SCs have disappointed me in quality lately with the batch I have. Some of them start dropping in resistance almost immediately. Even if I turn down the voltage, they'll keep dropping and dropping to the point they're unusable...and this happens in a matter of hours, not days. Sure, the DCs are twice the price of Boges, but I think they're worth it.

Yes, the plastic isn't the nicest-looking thing out there, but the metal caps help with the look. The Phiniac tanks are nice-looking, but expensive.

Also, I'd like to point out that I've stopped punching holes into the pre-punched flanged DC cartos.....the pre-punched hole works great on its own....I found, since the DCs wick so well, extra holes make them flood easily.

Not ever been impressed with cartomizers. Just not for me I guess. With a couple v3 stardust type clearos and a yard or two of cotton wicking material I can vape for literally months. When a coil goes south(haven't lost one yet!), grab another 2 dollar head and go nuts for a couple more months. Replacing the wick every week or two.

Not into the clearo eating juice much though.

I may not know what I'm missing but the SD clearo just works, for the way I want to vape.(Real cheap and quite acceptable vape).

Whatever suits your own needs, but I've found clearos suit mine just fine thanks.:vapor::vapor:
