I have heard that electronic cigarettes are legal in China but it has been very difficult to find any evidence for this on the internet, so I wonder if anybody here can tell me more about this issue. Are there any estimates of how many people in China are using electronic cigarettes?

I have heard about the big problems with tobacco smoking in China, which must cause big costs for the health system considering the many cases of lung cancer this must cause, a problem electronic cigarettes is a solution for.

If you know anything about the legality and use of electronic cigarettes in India and other countries I would be very interested in information about that too.

as far as I know there is no problem with the legality of electronic cigarettes in china,

the problem there is of economics,

many millions of chinese are smokers, nearly 100% of the smokers are men
I have no knowledge of any woman in china who smokes,
but

the issue is one of economics,
tobacco is so cheap there, and electronic cigarettes for them would be a luxury item,
so they smoke tobacco cigarettes.

Di - Are women who smoke frowned upon in China? Is it a taboo thing for women to smoke in China?

I would imagine there are a couple of women who smoke, maybe like closet smokers. But to think that in a country the size of China, with inexpensive tobacco available to them, and to find few (if any) female smokers ?!??!

No wonder the women of China have such beautiful skin, teeth, and smiles!!!

HA - You let their secret out of the bag :)

Merry Christmas, Di ~~

paula I have visited to China several times, and the longest visit I stayed and lived there for more than 9 months,

I met hundreds of people there and many many women,
not one of the women ever smoked.

the Chinese women are quite amazing,
at 40 years old they still look to be in their late twenties,
their skin is amazing,

the y say that the eating of the dried scorpions is one beauty secret,
many women eat up to a kilo of them each year in several batches.

I tried them myself, but I think even with a bucketful, it would be no good for me,

hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaa

Smoking for women is not frowned apon as such,
it is just not something that women do in China,

the women in china are very genteel,
very refined,
very sheltered.
They are nothing like western women at all.

The typical chinese woman is almost like a nun.

I knew many who were engaged to be married,
and still after many months had not been embraced by their fiance as yet.
Holding of hands had been done in public, but thats about it -----

soooooo very different from us all.

merry Christmas Paula - huggies ----

They aren't illegal in China, but they ARE illegal in Hong Kong. Just thought I'd clear that up :)

Also, I don't think lung cancer (or cancer in general) is a huge problem in China, regardless of the amount of smokers. There are MANY factors that contribute to cancer risk, one of the biggest being diet. The diets in Asian countries are known to be some of the purest and healthiest diets int he world, in stark contrast to that of the western and European countries, especially today. So, even as smokers, their risk of developing cancer is still greatly reduced by dietary and general cultural differences.
