Are electronic cigarettes legal in China?

I have heard that electronic cigarettes are legal in China but it has been very difficult to find any evidence for this on the internet, so I wonder if anybody here can tell me more about this issue. Are there any estimates of how many people in China are using electronic cigarettes?

I have heard about the big problems with tobacco smoking in China, which must cause big costs for the health system considering the many cases of lung cancer this must cause, a problem electronic cigarettes is a solution for.

If you know anything about the legality and use of electronic cigarettes in India and other countries I would be very interested in information about that too.

Hi Roger,

Electronic cigarettes are legal everywhere in China except for Hong Kong where they are banned. Ecigs would indeed benefit many Chinese citizens but I think the main reason why they aren't very popular is because of how cheap regular tobacco cigarettes are. I would say it has more to do with that then the legalities. I hope that helps.

Yes, it helps. I have now heard the same reply from seven Chinese sellers, here and in other forums, that e-cigs are legal in China but tobacco cigarettes are so cheap that few Chinese are using e-cigs.
