I have been editing articles in Wikipedia for 5 years and right now I am interested in editing the article Electronic cigarette. I have already corrected a few things but I am most interested in the legal situation in different countries.

I already know that e-cigs are legal in United Kingdom and Holland. I heard a few years ago that they are also legal in China and India, but it has been very hard to find any support for that through the internet. I found support for them being legal in China in this forum from a seller who sounds like he knows what he talks about, so I added that e-cigs are legal in China to the article.

It would be very valuable to find more information about the legality in China, India, the Philippines and other countries. If you have any information about the legal situation in these and other countries, please answer in this thread.

If you are in contact with people who know something about the issue, like a Chinese seller or a Chinese or Indian in general, please ask them about this issue.

It would mean a lot if e-cigs are legal in China and India, that's 2 billion people who have free access to e-cigs. If 10-100 million smokers start using e-cigs instead of tobacco we will soon have valuable statistics about the advantages, and possible problems, with e-cigs.

And to edit that article in Wikipedia every little piece of information is valuable. Verifiable information from newspapers, web sites, are even more valuable, but personal knowledge and hearsay is also valuable, as hearsay from many sources builds up to a strong indication.

Remember that wikipedia is often the first source people turn to when they want to find out more about something, and a link to wikipedia is often found near the top of most searches on internet.

Hi Roger,
We have a couple of suppliers in China (that I know of) here at ECF. They both have forums in the supplier section.

They are Eastmall and Greenhouse One.

There may be other China based suppliers here, but these are the only two I know of. Both Eastmall and Greenhouse One are in China and ship their products from China. I am a betting person, so I'll wager that if you post this message directly in those two forums you will be talking to the Owners of the company, or one of the officers of the company, or the General Manager of the company. Both of the forums are active and well supported by Eastmall and Greenhouse One management.

Here are the links to these forums:

Eastmall-ecigarette
Greenhouse One

I am sorry I can't help you more. I hope you find answers to your inquiries.
Perhaps the info can be found in those two forums here at ECF.

Hong Kong. It's rather ironic but this little part of China right next to the main manufacturers in Shenzhen is trying to ban the e-cig as well as the analog following the trends of the US and other western policy (yes they really love to suck up to the US here). This is also partly due to the people here don't really know what an e-cig is and mostly the government employees, policy makers and politicians are of the non-smoking type.

The HK Health Dept policy;
TCO - Electronic Cigarette

Of interest is point 5: "..and marketed as nicotine replacement therapy.." ,
which means some companies might get around this by changing the original marketing ploy of being a 'nicotine replacement therapy' or 'smoking cessation product', which most products still claim.

Oh, and let me explain the irony bit. I found out I only live like a few blocks away from DealExtreme (which ships china products that it can't legally sell here, but to other countries). As a result, the shipment I suspect hits a snag at customs and is sent back. It takes another dispatch (by DealExtreme - tks DE) about a month later to get through.
I did suggest to go on foot to pick it up, but it's a no-no -not legal.

I don't know if this is any help, but in Japan, e-cigarettes are on sale in convenience stores, pharmacies and even in my local bookshop, but with 0% nicotine juice. In pharmacies, you can get Nicorette gum OTC, but not nicotine juice. There have also been a couple of stories, including one on the TV news, about the juice that is available being 'contaminated' with traces of nicotine, presumably from being made in factories that manufacture regular juice.

I don't know whether this means that they are moving against it or whether they will move to allow nicotine juice- signals are mixed, at least to me, and I did try to find juice here. A few months ago, a smoke-free cigarette was launched ('Zero Style'), which is a black plastic tube with tobacco in and when you suck on it, you get a tingly feeling in your mouth and some nicotine. This means to me that alternative nicotine delivery systems can get marketed here, but I don't know whether nicotine juice will become available. For the moment, it's limbo; you can buy e-cigarettes freely, but have to order juice from abroad.
