Are some brands really better than others?

I've been using Smoktech 2.0Ohms cartos pretty much exclusively since I got my IBTanked through the mail (which was an agonising one month wait) and my results have been mixed - at times I've had an amazing vape and at other times things haven't gone so well. Anyway, I've been reading all over ECF and there's a lot of talk over which brand of carto to get. As I've only ever used one brand, I can't tell for sure whether or not the brand of the carto makes a difference.

Does it? The only logical way I can think of a reason why it may (resistance aside) matter is things like quality control and the quality of the coil itself (I'd assume some manufacturers don't pay as much attention to consistent spacing in the coils, how much padding is in the carto, etc).

Would I find any difference between, let's say, a Smoktech 2Ohm Single coil and a Boge 510 2Ohm Single Coil?

The quality of the carto makes all the difference. But when comparing cartos you must keep the variables constant. i.e. Wouldn't be a good test to try to different cartos both with 1 mm laser cut holes then put 70% VG in one and 70% PG in the other.

My favorites in order of preference:
IkenVape
Boge
Smok

Have you ever tried a non carto tank? what mod are you driving your carto tank with?

I have! I also use a Kanger Aerotank with rebuilt 1.3Ohm - 1.5Ohm coils and a David BDC when I'm out and about. Mostly I use an iTaste MVP 2.0 as my mod of choice, but when I'm at a social occasion I just take out an old eGo-C Upgrade 1000mAh and top that with either a David BDC or a standard carto (without a tank).

It is a carto tank we're talking about isnt it? or just cartos?
do you refill your own?

Yeah I'm talking about usage of Cartos in a cartotank, though as you'll probably know, cartotanks are only as good as the carto you use in them - the tank just feeds the juice.

Refill my own with 60PG/40VG juice, as I had wicking problems with higher VG ratios. Got some distilled water on the way though to have a little play with - that should help thin out the juice for cartos. I prime correctly, either using the Thingy provided by IBTanked or by dripping and using the thermometer shake to force it down so I can too it off more. I get about 1ml in there for XL cartos (got an XL tank) when priming by dripping the juice directly in there, not sure how much I get into the padding when I use the Thingy but it looks like slightly more than 1ml.

I pretty much consistently use 60/40 PG/VG at the moment - so much so that I mix it in bottles of 100ml nowadays. I've ordered some Boge 510 D XL cartos as my Smoktech ones are running out. I'll have a little play when they come tomorrow.
