Are threads going the way of the do-do? What's up with grommet-mania?

I keep noticing a trend towards grommets over threads.

AGA s
Octopus
Squid
Igo
Phoenix v4

I think it sucks.

At least with the old original Phoenix (despite it's center pin's tendency of floating upward) and some other rebuildables, you have/had the surety of screwed on threads. Never wondered whether or not it was going to come off.

if your o-rings are too loose, place a revoultion of dental floss under them to make them grip more sturdily. or you can purchase thicker o-rings.

thankfully, for me i dont need to do this as both my AGA top cap and my octopus cap came sufficiently tight from the factory. i can hold either unit (attached to my provari) by the top cap alone and the device does not come crashing to the table. in fact, my octopus cap is so tight that it takes a fingernail wedging to pry off.

one thing that helps keep the caps tight is to make sure the o-rings are dry. i like how the caps are going away from threading. ive got two threaded top cap gennys. one lines up perfectly with the wick, the other does not and its a little aggravating to line up after a fill/cleaning/rebuild/etc.
