nice write up - and thanks! interested to see how the subverter coils perform
I am too. It's funny that now I am anxiously waiting for one of my coils to fail so that I can try out the Subverter coil.

As an addendum, since this is an Atlantis 2 versus Freemax Starre Pro thread, when I got the Freemax Starre Pro last Monday, I started using it on the Sigelei 75TC with the stock 0.25 ohm nickel coil at 500 degrees F and 45 watts (this is the same setting I am using on all of my TC mods except for the SX Mini, where I am vaping it at 40 joules (in ECO mode) and 490 degrees F). I was vaping on it pretty heavily and by Thursday, I started getting the faint hint of a burnt hits from the coil. Since it is a top fill tank, you never get the chance to visually check out the condition of the coil every time you refill the tank like you can do with a bottom fill. By late Thursday night, I decided to swap out the coil. The coil and the surrounding cotton was nearly black. So the coil lasted me about 3-1/2 days and about 30 ml's of juice. Not a good start.

On the other hand, the Freemax Starre Pro coils are very easy to take apart and recoil. I threw on the same 26 gauge ni200 12 wrap and 3.5 mm coil that I put in the Triton RBA as a vertical coil. Once the coil was assembled and the legs trimmed, I put it on the ohm meter and it measured out to be 0.14 ohms. And that was the very first coil rebuild that I have ever attempted. Granted, I did use a pre-wound nickel coil that I purchased from Fasttech, but if some newbie who has never built a coil before can do (the extent of my rebuilding to this point has been rewicking Kanger OCC's), then anybody can do it.

There are three other nickel coils that work in the Atlantis.

From left to right is the Vaporshark Atlantis coil (0.15 ohm), the VapeOnly vAir-T coil (0.25 ohm), the Eleaf EC nickel head for the Melo and iJust2 (0.15 ohm) and the Smokeme BOC nickel coil for the Subverter (0.1 ohm). I was going to write up a thorough comparison review, however I had just gotten the Smokme coils in the mail yesterday and haven't gotten around to using them yet. The other coils I have used.

Vaporshark (cost: about $22 for 5) - I love the Vaporshark Atlantis nickel coils. They last forever for me if you are using a clear (or fairly clear) juice that isn't too sweet. I have been using the coil in an Atlantis 2 on an Evic-VT at 500 degrees F and 45 watts. This coil has been in use for six weeks and I have vaped over 80 ml's of juice on the coil and it still works as flawlessly as the day I first put the coil in there. I am also using the same coil in an Aspire Triton and have been using it heavily for 3 weeks now and have put at least 50 ml's of juice through the tank in the past 3 weeks. I have used juice ranging from 50/50 to max VG and the coil can handle them all without leaking, gurgling, or running into slow wicking issues even when I'm chain vaping.

VapeOnly vAir-T (cost: about $10 for 5) - This coil has an adjustable juice flow. In my experience, especially if you are using non-max VG ratio juices, you have to close off the juice flow to almost fully closed. I think the juice flow adjustment ring is loose enough where the juice can seep through to the wicking cotton even if the juice flow is closed. If the juice flow is opened up too much, the juice will flood the coil and seep down into the tank bottom hardware and will leak out of the AFC all over your mod. On the Atlantis 2, I noticed that the juice will pool up in the bottom hardware and the juice will actually start to burn from the heat of the coil before it starts leaking out. On the Triton, it leaked out of the AFC air holes. The build quality is also not so good. The first 5 pack of coils I went through, one of the coils actually fell apart on me. The bottom pin was basically held in place by the friction of the positive lead of the coil, so it popped off as soon as I barely tugged on the bottom pin. The coils only last me about two weeks or so, and as the coil gets old, the cotton wicking material will actually start to shred and get pulled up through the center of the vertical coil (looking down the center of the coil you will see little bits of cotton coming out of the middle of the coil).

Eleaf EC (cost: under $11 for 5) - Just received these coils a week ago and have been using one ever since. They seem to work pretty good, although I have only been using them for a week so I haven't been able to tell exactly how long one of these coils will last me yet. I have been using a 60VG juice with this coil so I have not been able to judge how well this coil will handle a max VG juice. These juice holes are the same size as the Vaporshark coils, so I would expect the performance to be similar. One thing I have noticed too is that the wick hole is a little lower on the barrel than the Vaporshark coils, so when screwed into the Atlantis 2 bottom hardware, the wick holes are actually inside the bottom hardware (the top half of the holes are not visible just above the bottom hardware like the Vaporshark coils), so basically you can vape the tank dry. I do notice that the coil itself seems to not wick as well when the juice level is near the bottom of the tank as it does if you have a full tank. I have been using this on an Atlantis 2 on a SX Mini and the very first tankful of juice I used, when the juice level dropped to a hair above the tank bottom, I got a "Dry Coil" warning on the SX Mini and intermittently the mod started vibrating in my hand when I tried vaping and it would not fire up to the full 40 joules that I had it set at. When I filled the tank back up with juice, this disappeared and now I have gone through 4 tanks of juice, vaping it all the way to the bottom of the tank and haven't had this happen again. The only thing I can think of that may have happened is that perhaps an air bubble was trapped in the wicking material and that cause a situation where the coil actually ran dry?

Smokme Subverter (cost: under $11 for 5) - As mentioned already, I just received these coils yesterday and haven't gotten to using them yet. Need to wait until one of the coils in my three Atlantis/Triton tanks or the coil in my Freemax Starre Pro needs replacing before I can use this. The juice holes on these coils are HUGE....as big as the juice holes on the Atlantis 2 (0.3 ohm) and Triton (0.4 ohm) coils. The width of the coil is a little wider than the Vaporshark 0.15 ohm coil, but narrower than the Triton 0.4 ohm coil. The Vaporshark coil will fit a 5/32" drill bit so that means it measures out to be around 4 mm. The Subverter coil will fit a 11/64" drill bit, so that means the diameter of the coil is around 4.5 mm. According to Aspire's website, the diameter of the 0.4 ohm coil is 5 mm. My one concern is that with the size of the juice holes, and the diameter of the coil, this could result in some leaking in the coil with lower VG juices, as that seems to be a problem that plagues the Triton coil.
That was ace you've made me want to try another VS coil maybe I just had a dud or maybe my juice was to dark I think I used sky by the vapor company (suicide bunny's cloud liquid) thing is I've got quite a few tanks now including the awesome crown by uwell but I keep coming back to my Atlantis it has a good balance between flavour and cloud and you don't fly through the liquid like you do with the crown I'm not saying you can't empty the tank real fast but not as fast as others in my possession. I mean they keep getting better at making vapor but when will it become to good and you'll need a thirty Mil tank just to last you a few hours. I think I'm happy with my V2 but I know for a fact I'll be buying something else to try in the near future, how things have changed I remember buying 3 aspire nautilus tanks to mix up my flavours a bit during the day and that was my tank I'd tried others but it was my personal favorite and I thought I'd never deviate from them and then subohming tanks appeared and kept on appearing and I want to try them all its so complicated I may have to stand in the corner and have a word with myself...the Atlantis V2 is the only tank I need.........or is it.....aaarrrrgggg!!!

I had to refill my tank today, so I tried to snap a picture of the coil. This is the Vaporshark Atlantis nickel coil after 6 weeks of use.
20150810_150306.jpg

If you look down the center of the coil, you do see some juice caramelized on the coil, but it isn't black like you would see if the coil is totally gunked. Also, you can notice that the cotton surrounding the coil is still white, as well as the cotton viewable through the wick hole (on the right of the photo). Again, this coil has been in use for over 6 weeks now, and have vaporized over 80 ml's of juice. I have only used one juice in this tank/coil combo, and that is Lotus Petal by Bamboo Elixir, which is a clear kiwi and peach tea with hibiscus in 60VG/40PG. I am pretty shocked myself that after all this time, the coil still keeps chugging away and is so clean. When I first started using the Vaporshark coils, the coils only lasted me between 2 and 3 weeks on average. When I was using the same coil, same tank and was vaping another one of their juices, Dragon's Breath, which is a dragonfruit and honeydew, the coils only lasted me between 2-3 weeks on average. That juice was definitely sweeter, and it had a color similar to honey. This 2-3 week life was also consistent when using Rise by Ruthless Vapor, which is a mango lychee juice, which is also pretty sweet and has a dark yellow color to the juice.

Here is another Vaporshark Atlantis nickel coil. I have been using this in a Triton for the last three weeks (I put this coil into the tank the evening of July 19th).
20150810_152147.jpg

As you can see, the coil is dramatically different. The coil itself is gunked up pretty bad. You can see all the caramelized juice turning the coil wire black, and some of these little bits is stuck in the metal mesh covering the cotton. The cotton itself is still pretty white looking at the wick hole in the upper right hand corner of the photo, and around the first wrap of wire. I do not notice a difference in the taste of the vapor or the vapor production at all. It still vapes as well as the day I started using it. I have been vaping a variety of different juices in this tank/coil combo, ranging from Jungle Fever by Ruthless, which is a pretty sweet pineapple, mango and citrus juice, watermelon by Parrot Vapor, Eternal Life by Carpe Diem Artisan Elixir, Fairy Juice by Tronic, and Mystic Mangchee and Harlequin by Cloudwerks. These are all juices that I picked up at the NJ Vape Expo and I have easily gone through close to 60 ml of juice just in this tank alone in the past 3 weeks. These juices are all fairly sweet, fruity juices.

I don't see a need to change this coil out yet, as it is still vaping pretty good. I suspect I will need to change it out within the next week or so. Looking at how gunked the coil is, I would be surprised if it lasts me past this coming weekend.

Still 3 weeks is still good most of my juices are max vg and I had wicking issues with VS coil also but I'm willing to drop the vg and raise the pg maybe back to 50/50. I really need to start making my own juice.

A couple of the juices I had been vaping with the Triton was max VG juices and I didn't have any wicking issues. What I have noticed is that max VG is typically around 90VG. The Tronic juice I have is max VG, but the label actually notes that it is 90% VG, 5% PG, 4% flavorings, and 1% water.

The Segatank and RTA's I ordered showed up today. Here's the RTA next to a Atlantis compatible Nickel coil:
    19854604293_470a20f4ca.jpg

the RTA is on the left. Not quite as much air on the bottom but ginormous juice holes AND to juice channels!

    Here's what comes inside:
    19852879044_8d4bf4297c.jpg

A big Kanthal coil and a ton of wick. Since I'm a TC guy, this all will get replaced with a bunch of wraps of 30AWG Nickel:

    And wicked:

I usually test them before wicking but forgot this time:
    20287491778_6db95a8a28.jpg

0.22 ohms - I can live with that.

While those looking closely will see that I'm using the Segatank here but my Atlantis build is mostly the same. Here's with the outsides on:
    20466794282_6f91beb9d7.jpg

My Atlantis2 was nearly empty so I installed a RTA and filled it with a easy to chain-vape 3mg 100% VG unflavored juice. I've ran the tank down to ~1/4 with no leaks. After I run it dry I'll fill it with a flavor. Having usable RTA's for the Atlantis2 sure made my day.

    (the Segatank ain't bad ether)

So I finally swapped out the Vaporshark Atlantis coil that was in my Triton with the Smokme nickel coil and have been using it for a day now. With the large wick holes, I was concerned that maybe the coil might leak, however, no leak whatsoever. Been vaping with a max VG juice. Being that it is temp control, there is no dry hits so it is difficult to say if there are any wicking issues since you don't get dry hits. I think there might be, as the coil seems to produce a more subdued vape as compared to the Vaporshark coil. The flavor is good, but the vapor production seems a bit lower and the vape seems a bit cooler than the Vaporshark coil. After I finish this tank out (on the 3rd tank now) I will need to try this coil with a lower VG juice, something in the neighborhood of 70 or 60 VG.
