At first, I loved the new Atlantis tank... Now... not so much. I've went through 3 coils in the last week. I am priming them before using, and NEVER letting my juice get below 1/4th tank. I've tried only going up to 17-18 watts and still no improvement. After a day, the coils are spitting dark pieces of crap, and visibly oozing dark (blood) colored juices into my light colored juice in the tank through the holes. Anyone else having this problem or possibly know what I'm doing wrong? I loved the atlantis at first, now this is slowly changing my mind.

How well are you priming them? I put close to a dropper full of juice into the coil before I attach the tank. Vaping at 35 watts, light juice, no change in juice color. Using 50/50 juice.

How many mils of juice do you run through your Atlantis before you start experiencing problems? What is the VG% of your juice.

I usually do about 10 drops before putting the glass back on which is probably about a dropper full. I've been switching between a 90/10 and a 50/50 and it seems that the 50/50 is tasting extremely burnt even at 17w. I can literally see the dark rust colored juice from the coil start seeping into my juice.

I get about 4/5 refills before this happens. The last coil that i took out looked like the cotton literally exploded inside. The air hole in the middle was completely clogged with black cotton.

I can easily go through 1-2 coils a day. I have flakes and burnt taste, it's either that or change daily sadly it seems. I tried vaping at 7w, didn't help either. When the cartridge is new, flavor and vapor is great. Maybe when I start DIY juice I can put some $ saved into stocking up on cartridges and keep it in my rotation. Beside this issue I do like it...

Heya mate, first of all welcome!

Second of all, that sounds like some bad juju. For whatever reason, the coil isn't able to keep up with wicking eliquid to it, and the stuff you're seeing is burnt cotton and/or loose fiberglass/ceramic paper fibers. It's talked about more in this thread:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ficial-statement-atlantis-coils-material.html

A few questions:

1. What eliquid you're using? You mentioned 50/50 and light colored, and that it's getting gunked heavily within 8-10ml, which you might expect with a really dark sugary eliquid. Is there any change it has organics in it?

2. Is there any chance the juice intake holes aren't visible or aligned? I believe this can be caused by the coil being in too tightly, or if you are using the refill trick of trying to get more than 2ml in the tank.

Hey there.. I've been using the Atlantis for a month now. How frequent I change coils depends on what type of juice im using. From what I noticed, the sweeter the juice,
the faster the coil collects gunk and will change the liquid colour. And for certain flavours, you have to bump up the power of your watts and this is also another contributing factor.

I've searched for ways to clean the coils instead of replacing them but official word from Aspire is that the coils are not meant to be "washed" and re-used. They are meant to be replaced. At first the discoloration was affecting me but as long as the flavour is still ok and the drag is not restricted, i'll hold up from a new coil.. LOL
A friend using the Atlantis advised me to only change the coil when you get a burnt taste.. other then that if you have the cash flow to frequently change coils, then change.. LOL

The only flavors I can get into are fruity flavors (which would be sweet) or cereal killa. I've tried washing them a few times and letting them sit for a while before replacing but that doesnt last either. It doesnt always taste burnt but airflow is restricted and when I open it up, sure enough theres black gunk through the entire coil. I can't imagine this is okay to inhale.

I always get a burnt taste same day. I check the coil at this point and it's always gunked up, black, with flakes in the screen. So at this point I should change it. I've tried following most advice everywhere, it just happens no matter what. Maybe if I vaped non flavored diluted nicotine at 7w I could get some decent time out of it, more than 1 day, but I want a little sweetness.

Maybe this thing isn't build for chain vaping, if you took 1 drag every minute maybe the coils wouldn't do this...but I find it difficult as I just switched and need to chain vape for satisfaction.

I must say, overall I am not too happy with the coils that come in the Atlantis, they are HARSH for the first while, and ever afterwards they just don't seem to be preforming the way they should. My first coil had the inner layer of cotton come unbound, which blocked off the airflow. I ripped that coil apart attempting to just replace the cotton but mangled the coil on the way out. The cotton/ceramic wick that was in there was still in good shape though after close to a week of vaping on it. Can't wait till my Kanthal wire comes in the main so I can rebuild a couple of these the way they SHOULD be, and see the difference in flavor. Put it this way, last night I had to put down my Atlantis for about 2 hours cause my throat was getting quite irritated, almost felt like heart burn. I know this "could" be the nicotine, but its not the first time I have overdone it on the nic, and just didn't have the same feeling. The first hour you use a new coil (completely primed and everything) I can feel the little bits of stuff hitting the back of my throat, not overly fond of this as it opens up the door for some health issues which many are trying to avoid using e-cigs.

the burnt pieces coming out of the coil are little pieces of ceramic from the wicking material breaking down on the coil, it has been an ongoing problem with the atlantis coils (they are changing to organic cotton very soon as per my local brick & mortar) the minimum wattage you should be putting through the tank is 20w. also with the burnt juice coming back into the tank could be juice that has hit the hot coil, but was not hot enough to actually vaporize. hope this helps

Wow guys, can honestly say I am shocked to hear all the trouble with the Atlantis. Must be the juice I vape on, but I haven't had any of these issues. Feeling lucky now, I have changed my coil once, just to gauge the difference after a month, and the old one was still going strong. Curiosity being what it is and all, I naturally tore it immediately apart and found the monster kanthenol still in bomber condition. So i just rewound it and converted it to a dripper with some cotton for flavor testing!

Are you using authentic Aspire Atlantis replacement heads, confirmed by entering the scratch off security code on their site.

One Atlantis using 2 different 50/50 clear non sweet tobbacco flavors, more than 180mls probably closer to 200mls, usually at 38.5w occasionally vary between 34w ~ 40w+. Never a single dry hit, no particles / pieces in air tube drip tip or mouth, no change in color of juice, no leaks, no flooding, no loss in flavor or vapor, no reason to change head. .

Another Atlantis I use for a tart / semi sweet green apple / watermelon flavor 50/50 slightly off clear still completely see through, known coil gunker & wicking material clogger, usually use 28w occasionally vary between 26.5w ~ 30w, heads last about 60 - 80ml.
Never a single dry hit, no particles / pieces in air tube drip tip or mouth, no change in color of juice, no leaks, no flooding, no loss in flavor or vapor until the coil gets gunked up & the wicking material clogs around 60 - 80 mls.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have a few pics of a coil after less than 24 hours using a watermelon flavor. I'll try to post them then. But with a flashlight through the center, it looks as if the wicking literally exploded blocking the center. If I go above 20 watts the flavor is completely burnt. Unfortunately, after less than a month with the atlantis, it has gone back into its box. Hopefully they change the coils soon! Until then, I've switched to the kanger subtank and I'm LOVING it... At least for now.

1. Please do post them, and if you could give a list of the eliquids being used? You mentioned cereal killa, but those types of data points can be helpful to look for correlations.

2. You might want to consider rebuilding the coils with cotton, there are different ways to do it at varying levels of complexity, but many have reported great success and better flavor.

I just bought an authentic 5 pack of coils which I believe were bad. I went through that 5 pack in two weeks the ways you have described. On my last coil I knew it would be just as bad as the other 4 so I stopped by a b&m and bought one from them. Later that day I needed to switch and Ive been on the b&m coil for the last 4 days. Not out of the woods yet but my flavor and airflow is still miles better than it would be by day 2 of the last coils I went through.

Pretty sure it was a bad batch but who knows. I read in another thread that I cant find now that someone else was having same issues.
