Aspire BDC Help?

So very excited to be a part of Team Vape! Long time smoker (20 years with analogs with minor breaks here or there) and never thought I could beat this thing. Started vaping with V2s abotu 14 months ago, off and on and finally decided to get serious and truly kick the analog habit. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a Sigelei ZMax 3 and am using an Aspire BDC Clero with 2.1 OHM coils.

When I purchased the tanks, the fella at the vape shop indicated that they coils should last 2-3 tanks before replacement (seemed low to me). I returned a week later and a lady their told me they should last 10 tanks.. her advice was to "break in the coils" and start vaping at 3.5 volts.

Issue I am having is that after 2-3 tanks I am getting a burned taste out of the vape... the coils are blackened as well.

I really need a good throat hit to better simulate an analogue to keep me on the straight and narrow vaping path so I generally vape at 4.2 volts (max safe limit for the 2.1 ohms as I understand it)

Am I missing something here? How can I extend the time that my coils last?

Also, It was suggested to me that I move to an "aero" tank? anyone know anything about these tanks?

I have the Smokeless Image version of the Aspire BDC with a plastic tank. They have lasted me longer than 2-3 tanks but there was no "break-in" period. I smoked Marlboro Reds so I wanted a good throat hit too but I get that by covering air holes in the base of the topper.

Turning up the voltage doesn't really mean "better hit". Some juices have a burning point and 4.2 might be a bit high for some juices you use. Upping the nicotine will help with any cravings you have but for me, throat hit does make me "feel like" I am getting my fix so I understand what you are saying.

I have an Aerotank but I also have a Protank II. I used the stock set up of the Aerotank and the Protank with an Aerotank base and I honestly prefer the Protank II with an Aerotank base. You can buy the base separately and you would have a spare base if needed.

The benefit of the Aerotank base is that with the air control, you can get what can be perceived to be a better throat hit. As an FYI, I keep my voltage about 3.8 on most of my juices and I get a pretty strong hit out of it.

I've been using the Aspire BDCs exclusively for the past month or so, 2.1 and 1.8 heads in the ET-S and CE5 style tanks. After 3-5 refills I clean the heads with a hot water rinse and then soak a few hours in vodka, then hot water rinse again and let dry. If I'm using a particularly 'dirty' juice (I'm looking at you, NETs!) then I run the heads through the vodka soak in my cheapie Ultrasonic cleaner. So far, rotating about 10 heads through this process I've only tossed out 1 of them that was well and truly worn out.

I also use the Aspire bdc tanks, love them! But I have noticed 2 things.

With a 50/50 PG/VG blend it takes longer for the wick to saturate, so a few non powered drags helps.

Also, some juices do great at 4+ voltage but others seem to taste best at 3.3 volts. You just have to experiment and find your sweet spot for each juice.

As far as how long do coils last on the Aspire bdc, I tried dry burning one and it failed miserably. Burnt and nasty forever! Lol

I get about 2 weeks per coil, but may go longer by soaking in vodka occasionally!

I have a number of Aspire using head systems. I've found be it the CE5, T3, any of the tanks or the Nautilus and even the Anyvape Davide I do the same thing and have yet had a burnt taste out of any but one. When I clean the clearomizer I pull the head and drop it into Absolut, or Everclear or use a Polydent tablet with water letting the head soak from 1 hour to over night. I use a fresh dried one to replace it. When I remove them I don't rinse the ones in Alcohol and just let them air dry, but do rinse the ones in Polydent. I find all three methods work well and I don't dry burn them as that is what I think cause the only one that I got the burnt taste from. So I basically rotate 2 heads only and really have yet had a need to replace any since. I'm pushing about 3 months with my oldest ones at this point and still going strong. Oh and I use either the Alcohol or Polydent depending on which is on hand at the time. I've run juices from 90% VG to 90% PG with the VG taking a bit longer to soak the wick is all.

Welcome supersmith to ECF. I have the Aspire BDC, Aspire Nautilus and Protank 2's with tank airflow controller. Also I use a high VG ratio with no problem.

You should try cleaning the coils....I use Everclear....soak for a few hours...then rinse in hot water....then let them dry out. The coils become very clean.

When I do put a new coil in I start low and work my way up.

I +1 the vodka soak. I do that with mine as well, I dont wash them after, just let them dry. I also keep a few in rotation at once but I am still using the original 2 from a month ago.

I don't think you can dry burn these or rebuild them because they are a contained unit and the plastic/rubber doesnt come out but I am not 100% on that.

So, just to be clear, is it the whole head you soak in alcohol? They do not need to be disassembled in any way? I'm just making the switch from cigalikes to a tank system, and I have several Aspire BDCs on the way, along with several spare heads. I'd like to get the most out of each tank/head. Oh, and I usually have some vodka on hand

Just the coil, the small bit that screws into the base. You can soak everything but I don't do that unless I have a strong flavor that won't leave.

Isopropyl alcohol has a bitterant added, to discourage anyone from drinking it. It likely doesn't rinse out well.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it, the idea of going through 2-3 2.00 heads a week wasn't in line with my hopes of saving the $$$ (though still much cheaper than analogs to be sure!)

You should go much longer than 2-3 a week so you likely will spend less than you think.
