I would say the Subtank versions.. Mini/Plus/Nano is a wise decision. The OCC can work on the 30w device and includes the rba so that when you are ready to make your own coils, it is a good platform to start on. And you can use the high VG in them

How many mouth-to-lung hitters are truly happy with the subtanks though? I could just about get by with them, especially with either the RBA or the new 1.5 ohm coil that restricts the airflow a fair bit, but they weren't good enough for this purpose that they managed to keep me away from my nautilus mini, or stop me just buying a triton.

Good point, but just use a more restrictive drip tip.:)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that finding an option that can handle your desired VG ratio is not the only factor here. Finding out whether you enjoy the sub-ohm style of vaping/direct lung hits being a big one that ideally you'd be able to answer before spending money.

This. All day and twice on Sundays. I don't see this mentioned nearly enough when attempts to steer someone to the right tank are made. Sub-ohm tanks with massive airflow are pretty much useless for mouth-to-lung vapers. Making sure you have the equipment that is made for your technique is paramount.

I wonder if there would be a big enough difference to justify a subtank right now or wait for something else.
Just go with a Aspire Nautilus and/or Mini with BVC, far better tha what you have now, but you will need to get the VG below 50 at the minimum.

Certainly cannot disagree with this...but there are ways a sub ohm tank can work for MTL. I have a Aspire Atlantis I set on the small air intake and use a tighter drip tip. I did have to search for one that fit well but it is doable.:)

I only suggested the subtank because the OP is using high VG

Helps a bit, but I've never found it to be enough of a difference maker, at least for my personal mouth-to-lung and the tips I've tried.

So many other difference makers too - e.g. the 1.5ohm kanger VOCC coils help a lot, but even with these same coils used in both, airflow is more appropriate on the subtank plus than the original v1 subtank mini. Perhaps its even better again for this purpose on the latest subtank mini's, I haven't got one so can't compare for myself right now.

...Just out of the blue it will taste like burnt toenail clippings... Also, 2 out of every 5 pack of BVD coils leak like a sieve.
Most of my leaks on both aspire and kanger tanks/coils have been via the air intake holes in the bottom part of the coils. Sufficient flooding of the coil causes juice to flow through those holes and make its way towards and beyond the air holes on the tank itself.
Dry hits & flooding appear to be mutually exclusive to my underdeveloped consciousness.
I mean what's really happenin'?

Further reading says there is no hands down MTL choice.
Well when it comes to vaping equipment, it is not an exact science, but rather an art, and with art, it is something that needs to be experienced....some may like the painting, others not, same goes for much of the equipment/liquids....I can say I went through over a dozen tanks to find the right one for me.:)

Sounds like you are burning the coil/wick, maybe on a longer or slower drag than your normal. Higher VG can be accomodated in a tank but with a big cut in power -- even if you can get one acceptable, it would still do much better with a thinner juice. If really avoiding PG, could try 1 drop distilled water per 1-2 ml of juice, well mixed. I dilute some dripper juices to use in clearos, haven't decided if using some water or just PG is better (also add nic, I use these in dripper also so they're 3 mg). I found some of this -- 30/70 PG/VG -- was OK undiluted in an iSub, but turned down to 20 watts from 25+. Thicker juice might be Ok at 15, 12 watts? OTOH, I had no problem with a small clearo and wholecig juice, which is no PG -- but has 5% water.

My GF and I love our Aspire K1s, the coils last alot longer than anything else we've tried an they've never leaked. We use a pretty extensive range of eliquids, all of them work well but all of them have a good percentage of PG, I'm inclined to think that it is your eliquid composition and not the coils that are causing most of the problems.

thank you for all the additional replies! I might give the kangor mini sub a chance, since it is on sale. I'm going to learn the coil wick stuff.

Although, I bought some juice from a local shop. It's max VG and I'm not exactly sure to what extent, but it vapes like a dream. No dry, no gurgling. But I think I need to step up a bit just for the flavor experience I'm probably missing.

I'm starting to think you may have an issue with the tank. Maybe the threads where the coil screws i are jacked up? There's no way you should be leaking that much through the coil. Those things are $10 or less. Can you just grab another one? Hell, grab 2 or 3 so you have backups. Those lil tanks aren't meant to last very long. That's why they are so cheap.
