Could someone provide me with the anatomy of an atomizer (specifically the 510). 2 of my attys are producing a burnt taste/smell and dont produce alot of vapor. I see these nylon type strands that appear to come from underneath that curve metal piece (bridge type thing). The tips of these nylon strands appear burnt, but I dont think it is the stuffing from the cart, b/c it looks different. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I found the exact same issue with my DSE 901's, i used tweezers to pull them out and then the atomizers were fine again. This has happened with 3 of the 4 I use on a regular basis. Not sure why or what but it tasted gross.

I'm not sure this is stuff from the cartridge, first they were straight (like hair) and second they were stuck either to the heating coil or under it (which is what it seemed).

But I have no idea where they came from.

Exactly! Though if its the wick, I'm pretty sure I dont want to be pull it out.

The wick wrapped inside the heating coil is important because is absorbs e-liquid. When the heating coil is activated, the liquid in the wick is atomized. As to burnt, well, in my experience, the wick material turns black after the first use and stays that way. Black does not mean it does not work or that it is now crispy like a potato chip, just the surface color changed from the heating process.

Burnt flavor often is a sign that the atomiser is running on the dry side. I suppose it is also possible that some of that off flavor is impregnated in the wick. If the latter, a soaking in viegar and hot water for an hour or so may help to flush it out.

Well i understand that maybe it is suppose to be there, but after pulling the long strands out the atomizer was usable again, instead of disgusting. I'm guessing that it is unable to soak up the liquid when poking out of where it is suppose to be and burning (hence the burning taste) instead of soaking in fuel. my atomizer still works, great and now taste good again.

I have used Grimm Greens tip to clean my attys with good results. Take a tea kettle and get it to a boil. Then wait for it the start steaming and hold the atty in clamps or what have you over the steam for a few seconds. This method really helps to remove stubborn flavors that like to linger I.E. Redbull, menthol. I also notice after doing this the draw is smoother and taste last longer.
