If it is wonky on a regulated mod and an ohm reader, I definitely wouldn't use it on a mech, not until I figured out why.

Which clone is it, not all are created equal.
I believe it is the Velocity V1 by Tobecco. I'm thinking about unscrewing the 510 and putting another one in, is that something doable, or should I not try that. I just know I have a handful of attys in the graveyard that work fine and could be sacrificed. Worst comes to worst I can just buy a new one because they are relatively cheap just trying to avoid that.

The Tobecco is a quality clone, V1 is the same I have had since it came out. Swapping the pin is an option, but I would make sure you are not shorting it out on the inside somehow. Maybe the coil is making contact with the top cap, or a screw is out too far. Maybe the insulator for the positive post is not right, with the V1 I know there is VERY little room for error for that insulator.
