I've been smoking an ejoy 510 for awhile now and haven't run into this problem until now. I bought 3 new atomizers and one of them randomly started giving me this burnt taste with thick vapor and caused my tongue to tingle. When I asked the person I bought it from what to do, she pointed me towards a video on how to clean it. Well the guy in the video said to remove the wick. So I tried to do that and found that it looked like the wick was actually burt and that was causing my problem. So naturally I tried to remove the wick from that one as well as the second one. Well now it seems the second one started doing what the first one was doing as well. So now I'm on my third atomizer and am afraid to do anything to it so I can vape with out worrying I'm smoking burnt wick threads. :p I want to remove it's wick, but don't want to risk not being able to vape. Is there a way to fix this problem with the other two atomizers?

The guy I read on this forum said to blow them out. Which I did and mine are working great now. His specific directions were to blow without cartridge in and allow the factory primer chemicals to burn off. I admit I was scared I would burn it up...had a horrible smell. And I didnt hold the button as long as he suggested...but I did it several times and no more burnt taste...:) Im a noob too so I wouldnt just take my advice. If you dont hear from some seasoned veterans `google` atomizers with burnt taste and you should get tons of responses to help you out. Good luck!

I remember having that problem when I first started. I removed a couple of wicks, but didn't have much luck with it. I definitely know the burnt taste you're talking about. It's terrible. It seems like it eventually went away. But I have a trouble with 510 attys. Most are good, but every once and awhile, I think you just get a lemon and there's not a lot to do about it. I just upgraded to a joye eGo-t and I LOVE it! I highly recommend. mypvshop is running a sale right now and their shipping was crazy fast. I realize that wasn't much help. Sorry, and good luck!

It may be burnt juice you are seeing on your wicks, the wick material is usually made of silica which withstands extremely high temps. When mixed with juice its extremely unlikely to burn. If you are using a high VG content juice, could be not enough is wicking to your atomizer and then burning. I've thought I had burnt wicks on my ego-t when i removed them, but then washed them and discovered it was burnt juice that adhered to the wick.

I kinda had this problem myself.

I was filling a cart with my ego in hand and accidentally had the button pushed down for a while (oops!) which resulted in a lingering burnt taste no matter what flavor I used, so what I did is I boiled my atty in distilled water for 5 minutes, let it dry completely, primed it with a few drops of fluid, slapped a new cart in and it tastes cleaner than the day I got it. (I think I finally got all the primer out, by god!)

Just be sure to use distilled water, not tap water, because the minerals in your tap water can leave a residue that can junk an atty.

@Dudeonline- thanks for the distilled water tip. For years I thought by boiling water I could make distilled water- like back in those days when you mixed it with baby formula :) but then I found out boiling water only kills the bacteria in water-it leaves the minerals which are what harms our attys :) Most people probably knew that! But I didnt! :)

If you pull out the wick then a. you can break the atty and b. you can no longer use it with cartridges because the wick is necessary for cartridges

Buy good attys like Joye, use appropriate attys for your battery (for example LR attys do not belong on a slim 510). The wicks of decent attys do not burn. They get your juice cooked on the wick. And avoid juices that drop a lot of flavoring sediment - that will gunk up wick and coils and make a baked on mess.

I would suggest getting quality attys like from aidvapor or ikenvape! They usually dont come with any primer on them so you should'nt get that burnt taste unless you vape it dry! IMO cisco attys and ikenvape are the best hands down compared to all the other brands like joye, bauway etc.. Try them and you wont be disapointed!
