Sounds like a bad set up. I dont own a Phoenix, have a couple of Genesis style RBAs, but in my experience that happens because of 2 reasons: either your wick is not good enough, or your coil has a hot spot. With the Phoenix of course there can be more issues or less. I cant imagine any other though.

Hopefully someone with Phoenix experience can help you.

Welcome , You mention that your making a 2.3 ohm atty , but as said above , if you have any hot spots , could cause the burnt taste . Often we make too low of a resistance , so not able to vape with very high voltage . I use a Penelope , amongst others , and typically my wicks/coil only come out to about 1.7 ohms . So I just vape it at 3.2 to 3.5 volts . Works fine . As long as you get good taste / vapor , your good . But as to the Phoenix , and clones , I have not had much luck with those . Had same problems with burnt taste , so I quit using them . You will probably have better luck , with a better rebuildable . But that's only my opinion . Good Luck

2.3ohms at 3.7 volts=burnt taste???
I gotta agree with kanj......you got a bad set up there brother!! sounds like a hot spot to me, or poor wicking.
Did you test all your coils before adding juice? Did they all glow a nice evenly orange color? Take your cap off and fire the device......any hot spots? Got a good oxidized wick??
Most problems with RBAs are related to the wick set up!!
Take your time and set that wick up right the first time, trim those edges good, torch the edges and oxidize well.
I use a solid wicks in my Gennys and usually wrap 30G 3/4 and I get about 1.2-1.4 ohms. I hit that at about 4.V and WOW!!!
Plenty of flavor, TH, and vapor!!
Good Luck
