Ok so I've been reading all I can here, and found lots of good info on construction and how to refill, etc. etc. *BUT* Here's my question:

I've got a 901 battery w/ cartomizers. I have a KR808D w/ cartomizers on the way because I found that I like it SOOO much.

Why is it that these cartomizers have SO much more flavor? Have so much more throat hit? Do the 901 batteries run at higher voltage than 4081 or 084?
Is it more about the construction of the cartomizer being different? Basically the 11mg carts are so flavorfull and have such an enormous hit I am amazed that it is far more than any atomizer / cartridge combo at 24mg I've had.

Anywho, lemme hear your thoughts. I am interested to know what others think about this and if you have decided to go with cartomizers, or do you still prefer regular carts / dripping?

In the end I have to say I have been won over w/ cartomizers. I can refill them very easy, super easy to drip with them (once you take the guts out of one ;) ) and they actually last a heck of a lot longer than I thought they would.

C-ME!

Hey haplo
I too just discovered cartomizers. Can't say I'm won over, too soon, tried my first one last night. I'm using it with a 901 adapter on a SD and yes, interesting system. Killer vape w/ VG!

You mention you've gutted one for dripping. I'm reasonably familiar with the other attys w/ respect to construction, placement of the wick in relation to the nichrome and so forth. Could you describe how the cartomizer is built? where exactly is the heating element in relation to the batting? How is the wicking carried out in these?

Thanks

I'll try to find the post on here - but there is a good few pictures somebody has done of one if I can find it for you...

In a nutshell - it is different than thinking of a normal atty - it is more like a light bulb.

if you take a cartomizer and set it upright on the table in front of you this is what peels away:
Outer casing
Batting material
Atomizer element cover (the small tube that runs down center of your batting.)
Atomizer element.

The element is actually a wire that starts out near the bottom of cartomizer, runs upward towards the top, about midway has around 5 or more tight coils in it, straightens back out, goes up to the top of the batting, then does a tight bend back down to near the bottom of the cart.

Warning: You need to leave the "element cover" in tact if you gut one for dripping. Otherwise there is nothing to keep the fluid by the coils and you need something to hold fluid there because it gets vaporized SO fast and you'll burn out the element if you fry it dry for too long.

I now see that the design of the atomizer itself is probably what is contributing to the increased heat. I only use the dripping atty for flavor testing - it's just too darn easy to refill them otherwise :)

Searching for the cartomizer pics... will post thread link when I find it...

Ah ok good - cuz I can't find that darn thread. LOL

Actually it just 'wicks' onto the element which is in the center of the cartomizer...

SO:

Batting is soaked with juice -> wicks into wrapping material or 'tube' that is around the element -> which wicks the fluid right onto the atomizer coil / element.

Am making a diagram here... eating dinner first tho - or penalty of wife ;) brb in a bit

Ah those are the pics I was looking for. Yes very similar, coil wire is a little longer, and that shows you how it is (before being burnt in two) wrapped in a wrapping material, then the batting material.

Pretty neat little system really and for whatever reason... much more efficient, or if not efficient - at least more productive and a better way to hold much more juice :D

Hope your dinner was good haplo. We just finished ourselves. Ummm, rosemary chicken, corn and mashed tater's.

Cool, between your description and those pics I've got what I need. Finishing up my 1st full day using em' and yeah, the cartomizer will probably remain a part of my kit, likin' it so far.

Later
