Attaching an APV/MOD battery to a passthrough.

An idea I had earlier. I've never done mods, only slim batts, but I had this great thought for my slim 510 passthrough! It would be neat if you could run a battery along side of it inside it's own steel tube. Something like a 3/4th inch 2000mah or even 3400mah. Just run the usb wires to the connections. I think it would look neat, and feel good because I like slim PV's. It would look like an offset double barrel, I could get past that if what I hold is thin. Anyway,

Concerns. I'm confused about the protections. I don't want to do anything dumb. Does the pass through alone have a little protection circuit board in them? I took off the end cap and I see two LED's (one for activate, one flashes when you plug it in) but I can't tell if it's protected. I guess what is there to protect in a pass through? Am I right?

If the battery is protected, will that bother or interfere with the board in the pass through if it is? Also which wire to put on which battery lead would be something for me to figure out. Any help there?

Here are the specs of the battery I would want to run:
Battery Capacity: 3400mAh
Battery Type: ICR (LiCoO2)
Battery Voltage: 3.6V-3.7V
Battery Size: (L) 2-5/8 Inch | (D) 13/16 Inch

Thanks for any direction ;D
